Replacement student cards

I've been a student on and off in DCU since 2007. I never lost my student card until now. I remember that they used to be 12/13€ or something back in the day but now I see that they are 25€ to be replaced. I'm only technically a DCU student now since I'm in college abroad but I liked my DCU card for the discounts as it will be in date until 2012 and my foreign on will expire now at the end of the current term. I've had the same card since 2008 when they brought in giving you a card for you full course (i.e. 2008-2012).

25€ a bit of rip off when I've had the same card for 3 years.
I'm really reluctant to get a new one now.

The most important reason I can think of to have a student ID is that If you have to sit exams again in DCU you'll be required to have one.

Also sure if you save more than 25euro in student discounts then it's paid for itself.
