    Hi
I've been reading the halfords thread and think it's better i spend my 150 budget on a second hand bike rather than a new one.
I'm only going to use it the odd time - probably a couple of hours per week so it'll hardly get time to break down.

I know nothing about bikes All bikes look like BSO's to me
Can you give any opinion on these bikes from adverts.ie

    Many thanks

I would value them between €30-€50 at the most.

It’s difficult to give an opinion based only on the photos. For sure, they are both low spec bikes, so the asking price is certainly high enough in each case (bearing in mind that there are a few new bikes available for €150 or less in Halfords).

I think it’s fair to say that neither of the owners is obsessed with maintenance – the first bike has a flat rear tyre, the second has a rusty chain. But you can’t tell from the photos whether the wheels are true, or the gear indexing works, or if the seatpost is seized, or the brake cables need to be replaced, etc., etc. A few problems of that type could make the difference between acceptable value and a complete rip-off.

If you’re Dublin based, why not check out Rothar? I’m not sure if their second hand prices go as low as €150 but you will definitely get value for money and a bike that is fully functional.
