Wel from my experience when I was starting out on bass I had a poor amp and poor bass, i found that the sound was, obviously, very poor. Then I upgraded my bass and still play that very same bass but when played through that poor quality amp it sounds awful, nearly as bad as the original bass I had, but when played through my main amp it sounds perfect. I don't believe that the source is more important from what I have experienced as the amp can destroy that source signal just as quick as it was produced in the first place. On the other hand, a top amp will retain a signal much better.

Basically IMO neither the bass or the amp are more important, they need to work as one complete unit.

Well, it is from my experience. I agree that both are important, but I personally would put the priority on buying a bass, with the amp coming in second. As I said in an earlier post, I have seen similiar type discussions on other forums. In them, the opinions had the bass at a slight majority. So obviously others have had the same experience as me. Granted, everyone's experience can be different. :)
