I have been struggling to release the dart for a while now. Its only slightly but enough to drive me demented! I play a 23g and find that if I stand 18 inches further away I release the dart a lot better. Does this mean that I need a lighter dart? Obviously I cant start standing this far away! Also there are 24 grooves on the dart and I feel a smoother dart would help me release better. Any ideas whether either a smoother or lighter dart would help?? Thanks! :)

I don't think it is your dart that is causing you to struggle with your release if you can do it when standing further back. Sounds like it's a psychological thing and it's all in your head. Spend an hour or so just throwing at the bull and concentrate on getting your release to be as smooth as possible. Hopefully this should help you get it right

I know what this problem is as I had it, and I dare not mention the name.

My cure was to use a little trigger to get the release timing right. What I do is slightly clench the fist of my non throwing hand just before I expect to release the darts. It works for me and doesn't upset my balance. I have seen a lot of players with little trigger mechanisms whether they know they are doing it or not.
