hello all, no competiton but just a general comment here...have been an avid comper for a few years and enter lots every week. I have won some great prizes over the years and my family were always commenting on how lucky I am but I used to disagree and say no its just somebody had to win. Anyway my point is I have not won anything for AGES. Anybody else the same? I reckon during the alleged good times people were just not bothered and now there must be so many entries to every competiton? Anybody got any thoughts....

by the way not being bitter about this delighted for all winners just noticing my own trend....;)

Yea, I've won a good few big prizes in the past but nowadays it just seems to be dvds or cinema tickets. With the three stars on the lotto tickets its always "I'll put your name on it, you're lucky" which I disagree. I've always loved entering competitions from an early age and still love doing them now! :)

I don't enter cinema tickets and that kind of thing but trying to enter for other things like holidays or phones or that kinda thing.. hoping to get good news soon :)

Don't enter anything by post or anything I have to pay for :o

You are right and i can prove it - in 2008 I won 2200 worth of prizes, in 2009 i won 1980 and in 2010 I won 1800. I think your reason is right plus companies don't have the same budget for prizes. For example I got most of the weekend papers and I have not come across one competition in them yet!

I must be having all your luck trail man! ;)
I only started last April last year. From April to December 2010 I won 5100 worth of prizes.
This year didnt get off to great start, Ive only won around 1200 euros worth of prizes since Jan.

Hoping your luck will pick up again soon and mine too! :D

Are you into literary fiction? Each day this week, we're giving away a fantastic prize to celebrate the books you love.

To enter today’s competition, send an email to facebook@easons.com by midnight tonight (with 'MONDAY' in the subject line) telling us about the best novel you have read so far this year. Don’t forget to include your name and address.

I've not found that at all. What I have found is that if you want to win a decent competition you need to put an effort into it. I had a fantastic year in 2010 but it did involve many hours of hard work. The only type of competitions I don't enter are those that require a popularity type vote. I've not done as well so far this year but that's down to me not being very well and so not having the time to put in.

I've done well out of video comps, the problem is trying to find the right ones... Innocent smoothies have one running at the moment but it's across uk and Eire so lots of enteries. What I need to do now is win a camcorder or digital camera as I've just been using my phone up to now :)

I've never had one of the big wins that some people have had...ie. holidays, nice weekends away etc. Have started to win a few small prizes like CD's,a bag,but I think that's down to the fact that I'm entering more comps and bettering the odds!
I really think if people stick with it, one day they'll win something great. And the more you enter the better chance you have to increase your winning streak

I agree with the original poster that there are fewer big prizes out there, but I've found that I am equally happy with lots of small prizes, like today 2 x books from 2 separate competitions, total value about €20, but its so nice to get something for free.
I also strongly dislike the facebook 'likes' competitions, they are skewered towards certain people happy to trawl through their address book!
I've won about €1300 worth of stuff so far this year, biggest was 3 months entry to see unlimited numbers of movies at a cinema, smallest was some money off vouchers for glenisk yoghurts! But in there are about 20 books, some I'd have bought myself, others I wouldn't have looked at, but have enjoyed reading.
I agree that just entering regularly does help - i still maintain I'm not lucky, just prepared to enter 5-10 comps a day (if I can find them).
    :D
