It should read '3g' if it is not tight enough - the tuner is telling you that your string is currently tuned to g, which is flat. The tuner should cycle through the varous string names as you tighten it. If you're uncertain, check the pitch against the fifth fret of the b string to see how far off it is.

Unless he's already an octave higher ;)

As Efla already said.. check against the 5th fret to see if you are already tuned higher...

Is it a possibility the wrong string was put in the wrong pack,on pack it said E1st,but what if it was a 3g string would this cause my problem?
    i know its going snap!!!!

I know it sounds odd but is the tuner tuning the other strings ok? Sometimes when the battery is low on some tuners it doesnt read accuratly.

Another thing is if its tuned to high it could be reading a G an octave up and needs to be tuned down.

the tuner had new battery recently,it seems to tune other strings ok, if i tune down seems to go to 4d 5a etc..
