hugh upc are cable meaning they have a wire between your tv and the source. Sky is satalite meaning they can beam the signal to you

    Pros (for me)
    Don’t want a satellite dish
ESPN and Setanta Ireland at no extra cost
    Also a broadband customer

    Cons
Lack of red button interactive services

I find the menus and guide fine (prefer them to sky tbh) and the DVR part is grand. Channel line up is fine compared to Sky. Sure they’ve more channels but none that interest me. Watched the ITVs for maybe an hour a week (or the odd movie if the times suited)

aparantly i don't subscribe to upc :( chappy came to do the install this morning. then tells me that half the signals aren't comin thru proper cos TOO much signal is coming thru or something - don't have a clue.

but basically i wouldn't get have the channels on the box so they can't install the thing.

and i can't use proper arial cos i am at sea level and there is a big assed building blocking the signal - so not sure if saorview would work if i got the bits.

frickin sucks being tethered to sky as they are the only providers i can get in this house.

    not happy.

    Will be canceling tomorrow

How did you get on with this Tippsy?

id love to be in a true cable area but sadly all that would be available is the ex-chorus mmds system so wouldnt be worth changing to them as they wouldnt be able to provide a pvr or hd box or broadband,i would love their bb packs though

The reason we went with UPC is because we dont do not have a phone line, therefore could not get any tv boxes upstaris with SKy..

I didn't realise you needed a phone line for sky.

You don't any longer. Have to pay a few quid extra during install.

you can get one box without a landline, but they will not give you a second box.

I know of two guys who got multiroom with no telephone line at all. Never any comeback 16 /8 months on. Just demanded the second box or would cease the contract.

Are you aware that saorview only provides the Irish channels? If you have Sky already then why change to UPC for an inferior TV service?

Has anybody here noticed that all the Premier League coverage on Setanta has recently switched to Setanta 1 which is a subscription channel on UPC,they offer Setanta Ireland free but without live EPL football there's not a lot left worth watching on it. €15 extra a month is a bit scaldy:eek: http://www.upc.ie/television/channels/

Missing the IPL cricket today :(((
ITV4 is show on the box when you navigate to that station, but no picture.

The basic package is not great. It does have the main channels though and if you live in a building where you will never be able to put up a dish of any sort its all you've got. A few more HD channels - or even basic channels! - would be good though.
Sky would be very expensive for people on limited income. Not that UPC is cheap mind you.

k so as to y i want upc (can't change to them so am stuck with sky). sky have driven me round the bend. YES they have the better product technically. but their service leaves a LOT to be desired.

customer service has been diabolical to me over the past few months. too long to explain. have explained in previous threads and it is a lot of annoying crap.

then since i got the hd box a yr ago i have had it replaced and had a number of other problems with it.

so i am sick of it now

Do you have Setanta Ireland? The IPL is shown live on that.

Setanta Ireland aren't showing all of the IPL. None today for example. Golf and a summer of Gaa no doubt. Back to the pc which is very annoying because that was pretty much the main reason I moved from analogue to the basic digital package.

So, to answer the question, the main reason I subscribe to UPC is because I have no alternative living where I live and I was expecting to watch something that has now gone.
    Very annoyed.

Their package deals on phone and broadband!...however not even that can keep customers with the way their going, I'm unsure as to how SKY operate their broadband and phone services in the UK however if they were to introduce these services in the distant future they would surely see an impressive uptake!

Does anyone else find that the stupid UPC remote keeps flicking them on to channel 100 by itself. its got a mind of its own. There isnt even anything on channel 100 but ads for UPC....Im so sick of that bald guy trying to sell me a service i clearly already have...

I know its not good to resurrect old threads but don't see the point in starting a new one for my related question. I'm trying to place a rough date on a particular incident that happened and I seem to recall it happening around the same time the change over took place from the bald guy to the new guy.. (i remember saying to my friend 'where is the bald guy gone??')
can anyone remember roughly when that was?
