Technically, if Collie and Cillian get the position this year they could run AGAIN next year since the new constitution only came in this year.

Just a big of useless information.

Only one candidate for SU President? That's pretty poor considering last years election provided us with plenty of choices and an interesting election (to say the least).

Did they photoshop lipstick onto him in one of the posters, or did you just add that for the gif?

Not that surprising. Niall McClave ran unopposed in 2008.

I think that effect is just an amusing by-product of downscaling those images into gif format. Didn't notice at first because I can't look at it for too long without feeling rather ill...

pretty sure his lips went a bit transparent when they added the alpha layer, that's some high quality red brick lipstick =P

    Hey guys,

Would really love your support in the elections next Wedn/Thurs 6th and 7th of April. It would be an honor to represent the student body of DCU as the designated Welfare Officer 2011/2012.

Please see the 'info' tab at the link below for the bones of my manifesto.

Why are you going for a sabatical position for the second year running - despite being elected last year? Why not let new blood in?

    Anyone go to the hustings?

Think Welfare is going to be the big battle this year and will be tight between Ruth and Collie although I wouldn't rule out Jackie Fox either. Ruth has the passion and drive for the job as well as the capablility to get along with everyone. Having said that, I don't know her at all, so I'm more than willing to be proven wrong. Collie has the passion for the job as well as the experience (I'm pretty sure all 3 sabbats have dealt with welfare issues in the past year, not just Cillian). I reckon that one's going down to the wire.

Education is between Cillian and Ian I'd say. The other three do nothing for me. Would like to see Cillian get another term. I don't think anyone can put fault to his capabilities and the fact that he's done a good job this year. He impressed me more at the Hustings as well.

    I went.

I have no idea who I'm going to vote for for Welfare. I was thinking Jackie and Collie, but I was very impressed with Ruth and Elaine too. Twill be a toughie alright.

After the Hustings today it is clear that the person to take up this position is Ruth Connolly. She talked from the heart and I thought she really showed how her experiences throughout her time in DCU will help her in the position. I personally feel that if she gets the position I'll feel fully comfortable going up to the SU and asking for help if I have an issue. Ruth Connolly deffo has my vote!

Tim came across very well, a lot better than I expected him to. This will be one of the closest VP elections in a long time!

Good Luck to all the candidates the next few days!:)

Am I correct in saying that two incumbent sabbats are running for elections again, but neither of them are going for the role of SU president? What is the logic of this?

To somebody who this is all new to it seems very logical to me (going by what I've read and heard about the SU and new constitution).

If they gain office this term they can also run for the same position next year (because a new constitution was brought in). 2 (-3) consecutive years in office would bring a lot of experience and would create a better profile for them and increase their popularity for when/if they do decide to go for the President position. However I could be entirely wrong.

What strikes me as odd is that I would have expected someone as an outgoing SU sabbat would have the profile and experience to get elected as president.

What is even more odd is that if they are elected to one of the other two sabbatical positions then they would be serving under a less experienced SU president.

Do they not have the interest in the role? Or do they not have the confidence that they could win it?
