B+B rates

Just wondering what would be a good fair rate for b+b on grass for the summer-I would be giving a neighbour 12 fresian heifers and a bull for around 4-5 months, first year doing this and no long term deal, just suits him this year but could potentially become long term.

Hi Tim,

Its a tough one to work out ... and judging by the lack of replies others thinking the same, best thing to do is figure out how much a field in the area would cost to keep the 13 of them in grass for the summer?! Between €80 and €100 a head id say for 5 months

I think there is a tegasc leaflet on contract rearing, this might give you an example of prices, obviousy you will pay more for older stock etc. I think you can see it on their website.

Found http://www.teagasc.ie/publications/2009/GuidelinesfortheContractRearingofReplacementHeifers.pdf and it is a good guide-they are pricing between 90c and 120c a day-guessing summer grazing is on the low cost side compared to wintering and they wont require concentrates so anywhere from 75c up to 100c a day would be fair. That would be from 112.50 up to 150 euro/head for 150 days of grazing.

Any comments?? Good Value???

Would you give up buying yearlings and summer grazing them for either of these figures??
