Yes, there are local maps for particular areas which show the routes on a streetmap.

No, there is no overall map published.

that's a real pity....they would be vey useful as a web resource

A lot of them are out of print at the moment.

Go to http://www.dto-journeyplanner.ie/dtojp/jsp/content/start.do and enter Ranelagh as your start point and Ballinteer Avenue as your end point. The result follow the 48A route.

    The 48A goes

over the canal at Ranelagh Bridge
    under an ordinary Luas bridge
    through Ranelagh,
    turns right onto Milltown Road
    left over Milltown bridge,
under the big Luas Bridge in Dundrum
    past Dundrum shopping centre (old)
bridge over the Dundrum bypass, past Dundrum Town Centre (brand new)
    passes various roundabouts
and then goes up to Ballinteer past Superquinn.

Those features are pretty unique on the route. You can also also the driver to let you off at a particular stop.

Buy one of these (make sure its at least 5th edition) http://www.osi.ie/mapping/maps/street.asp

Sometime Dublin Bus publish an overall map, I have last year's one, but they only make them when they feel like it!

    Thanks V.

That's what i did in the end...had a vague idea where i was going but with all the building out in dundrum now i wasn't sure.

But i defo think it should be on their website along with the indivisual bus stops....sure it would be nothing but a simple GIS

they update them on a regular basis not once a year but when enough routes have changed to justify updating

just wanted to ask, when its available where do you get the overall map? thanks!

On the dublin bus website on each route's time table page there is a link to a google map with the route marked on it with pins.

This is the most up to date map available - it is a schematic version. The Dublin Bus network map based on the ordnance survey is not available.

    http://www.dublinbus.ie/PageFiles/1826/Route%20Network%20Diagram.pdf

Otherwise the ordnance survey Dublin Street guide shows the bus routes but is a little out of date.

I spoke to the Dublin Bus Network Direct guys last week and there may be an Ordnance Survey-type map coming out.

Until then www.mkmap.com/dublin (routes) and the individual timetables on www.dublinbus.ie (stops) are best and the paper local area guides are best.

    Looking at that site.
    www.mkmap.com/dublin

Its really good. Typical, a semi state company couldn't come up with something similiar:mad:

To be fair the entire network is completely changing at the moment - when it's done next year hopefully a new full map/guides will be issued.

DB had an excellent map bsaed on the Ordnance Survey map of Dublin, but the licensing costs became too high.

As for mkmap it is now hopelessly out of date, but as the creator left no contact details it is impossible to delete the old cancelled routes!

www.hittheroad.ie is pretty good from what I can see.

If the licensing costs are too high, I hope DB talk to OpenStreetMap. They will give them their map for free, if DB put the stop locations in.

May be a little late for your journey this evening, but:

From O'Connell Street, take the 16, 16A, 19, 19A or 122 bus to Camden Street. These will leave you a 2 minute walk from Harcourt Street.

Harcourt Street is one way, with no bus stopping there outbound. The above routes will leave you very close.

Note: The 16A will bring you directly from Dublin Airport to Camden Street.

If you want, you could take this bus (Aircoach) from the airport (get off at Leeson Street) http://www.aircoach.ie/map.routes.leopardstown.php
which will drop you within a 2 minute walk of Harcourt Street. http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Lower+Hatch+St&daddr=Hatch+St&hl=en&geocode=FYrRLQMdWo2g_w%3BFQTQLQMdZG-g_w&mra=dme&mrsp=1&sz=15&sll=53.334794,-6.259375&sspn=0.006612,0.017595&ie=UTF8&z=15

Cost of the bus is €8 or €14 return.

Actually, the local bus 16a, as suggested, would be better if you want a cheaper option. About €2.25

    http://www.dublinbus.ie/en/Examples/Google-Map/?routeNumber=16A&direction=O&towards=Lwr.+Rathfarnham+(+Nutgrove+Ave.)

They have a 3 day tourist pass which is valid on all services.

The 16a will take you directly from the Airport to Camden Street which is parallel to Harcourt Street.

    Saves any transfers.

@ All , thanks a lot for the transfer airport to Hotel is ok 16 A

    Also please help to me for the 2 place ;

    http://www.dublinsightseeing.ie/southCoast.aspx ...... South coast or
    http://www.dublinsightseeing.ie/northCoast.aspx ..... north coast

i want to choose one of them , which one ?

Personally I'd take the South Coast tour.

Bear in mind that the 3-day Freedom ticket does not cover this - you will have to pay extra for it (EUR 28.00).

That ticket only covers the hop on-hop off city centre tour along with all normal Dublin Bus services and the Airlink to/from the Airport.

Most if not all state-run museums are free anyway.
