80C? That looks like a post-1986 facelift car to me.

They're very easy to upgrade though, swop the bumpers, wheels and the door mouldings and you've upgraded, about two hours work. I've got a 1979 126 SEL with a 300 diesel engine in it.

True enough, although my gut is telling me that might be a post-facelift colour? What's the full reg?

What I should have said was a 80's C reg as I only saw the Merc from the angle of the photo I took, and once as it pulled out of the drive, it looked 80 but could well be 8.... something but the C, I made out. It sounded really sweet going up the road.

Spotted on Sunday in Dun Laoghaire.... wow.

Love the 70's look of these. If I ever get to own a Ferrari it's likely to be a GT4 (also - they are 'cheap').

^^ - I too love the GT4 - when I was a lad my dad tried to convince my Mum we could use one as a family car ;) He wanted to trade our 7 series BMW for it . I would have loved that but I am sure I would be 2 feet shorter now!

There's no doubt that the 126 series Mercedes is going to be the next big thing in the classic car scene, they really are a super car in every respect and not as expensive as you'd think to run either.

Young fella who works with me took this as a swap for a nice 1300 Mini.

I think he got rightly tickled. It has an RS Turbo Fiesta lump bodged into it and a sierra dash. He was told it was all sierra running gear but there is a live back axle in it, are they not independent suspensions in the sierra?

Yup. What the hell does the Sierra dash look like in that?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,811 ✭✭✭✭Slidey

Shyte. It had just a flat panel covered with industrial carpet and a section cut out for the dash.

Sorry, I should point out, it is just the clocks that is in it

Point him in the direction of http://www.irish-customs.com/ that'd make a damn fine hot rod once all bodging is sorted.
A nice set of slot mags, the right handling bits and interior and it'd be an unusual and stylish machine. Certainly more interesting than a mini IMO.

I've seen that Renault 18 '200 HZU' in Tallaght and in Naas over the last few years - looks to be in mint condition and very well cared-for. A credit to its owner.

    Hi Dades

The GT40 was at a Octane met, at Cherrywood in Loughlinstown. The GT I agree about BUT what a car !!, I would excuse the interior personally. :)
The sound of it is just unreal, the exterior lines, Wow !! The owner went for a spin as he gave it a little welly up the road, I looked up thinking there was a low flying plane !! Just something else.. I am green with envy
