The pump from my well seems to be airlocked. Whats the easiest way to solve this please. The well is about 20 ft deep with 15 ft water with the filter resting on the bottom.

Can it become airlocked with the filter constantly submerged? It has been switched off for two months now and won't pump any water, the pump starts up and strains but not a drop comes out. The pump compressor in excellent condition and is fairly new.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Sometimes if the pump is not used for awhile the cog inside it ceases and wont turn . There should be a screw that you can open and turn the cog with a screwdriver to free it out . If it is ceased and the pump is left switched on for awhile it could be burnt out altogether

it probably needs to be primed to get it going. Is there any nut on top of the pipe coming from the well you can take off?you take that off fill with water till overflowing then start pump.

sounds like the foot valve is leaking thats the filter u are talking about
it is a non return valve that holds the water in the pump when it cuts out so it is already primed
also it should not be resting on the bottom but up a foot or two to stop it suck ing in dirt that lies on the bottom of the well

Thanks everyone I hope its not burnt out, I doubt it, as I switched it off after a few seconds because the sound wasn't right. I'll check out all your suggestions in the morning and move the filter (foot valve ) off the bottom.
    I appreciate all the suggestions.
