Folks I got a new Spanish guitar. As i'm normally used to a steel string one it seems to be very hard to keep in tune. Its new so the tuners are ok, just wondering could it be the strings as they came with it, possibly cheapo ones ?

    Thanks Dj.

I just bought a new nylon string guitar at Christmas and I had the same issue. I was going to change them but didn't bother. After a week or so I found they seemed to stay in tune better, after a few weeks they were great. So I can only assume nylon strings take longer to settle in. I'd leave it for a couple of weeks to see how they work out

Tune your guitar, stretch the strings, and repeat this several times. Nylon strings should retain some elasticity but need some stretching/playing in time. When they become quite taut (assume they are normal tension which would have come on the instrument) it's time to change them.

If you're used to steel strings, then hard tension or even extra hard tension might suit you to give you more brightness and attack

Thanks for that folks appreciate the advice. On the tuner I take it I use the same settings as for steels, as on G mode I set it at 430 ?

It can take quiet a while to get your nylon strings in Tune , as the other guy said you have to break them in a bit,
The good thing is they last quite a while, and some folks like the sound better when they a a month or two old.

Labella strings ar quiet good when it comes to changing them again, but make sure you put them on correct otherwise they slip like mad.

another tip is to tune your guitar a tone above concert pitch ..play for a while and then drop it back to pitch .....keep picking
