Samsung R530 Won't Recognise New RAM Stick

I got a fairly cheap Samsung R530 over Xmas. The laptop came with 2Gb of RAM, but i bought another 2Gb DDR3 to throw in the second slot. It's a Kingston 2Gb DDR3 PC3-8500 CL7 204 Pin-SODIMM. It fits in the slot, clips in tightly, but when i reboot, the system still only shows 2Gb and not the 4Gb i was expecting.

I ran the BIOS thing with the F2 button on a reboot. The BIOS screen states that RAM Memory Slot 2 Not Installed. When i move the arrow keys up and down, it won't let me change any values in the memory. How do i get slot #2 to read the new RAM? Do i need to upgrade the BIOS?

Just to update this thread. I swapped the two RAM sticks to see if that helped, but i got a black screen when i powered on. No beeps, no text on screen. That was no good, so i swapped them back and the laptop is still dead.
