I'm a female and yes, I passed first time
Past first time after a block of 15 lessons, once a week - no other driving...because I was in a country where they don't buy cars and drive around first, then look to getting certified. :)
Us Irish dont know how lucky we are ha:P

you can drive in europe with a licience from any other european country.
if you stay there over a certain period you're obliged to take their test though apparently
i wouldn't be too hopeful that she's pass that tbh

Yes I passed first time, on the same day as my mother. She had been driving 25 years and had failed the test once, I had been driving 5 months.

To this day I still think it was a great achievement!

Yes. Passed first time. Almost had a flawless test too. Got a few of the questions wrong, but not enough for a Grade 1 fault. Got one of the hand signals wrong though, so got a fault for that.

    Haha the good auld days!

My boss went in to get his license renewed(the 1970s), and they gave him a form to fill out asking him to tick off the categories that he had a full-license for, he only had the car, but he chanced his arm and ticked off them all.

Went up to the counter handed it in, a week later he got his new license with everything on on it:eek:

My brother failed the California "drive in a straight line and park", but took it again immediately (20 mins later) and passed.

Yeah, that's pretty much it. I was also surprised when I took the test in an automatic and didn't have an 'auto-only' endorsement on the license. (How did he manage to fail the thing the first time?)

The written test isn't any better. I showed up at DMV, was told there's a written. Turned out that I got three tries at it, so I decided to just take it then and there, and if I failed, then go study. Passed it.

I recall a Guinness Book of Records entry saying Egypt had the easiest driving test in the world. Ten meters forward, ten meters back, reversing between two cones. What was termed 'A high cone attrition rate' resulted in the cones being replaced by painted white lines.

    NTM

Passed first time almost 2 years ago now and havent really driven since bar for a week during a road trip in America there in the summer just gone.

I learned to drive (off a guy who never had sat a test) at 17 THEN I got my provisional licence but once I had that I didnt bother trying to get my full as the waiting list was too long and I didnt have a car to drive. Finally decided to get it out of the way, in the space of 4 months of reapplying for my learners permit I had my full.
I was quite confident going into the test and knew I was going to pass but got 3 grade twos which one was unavoidable as I got a mark for turning right and I just couldnt get out and a truck was blocking my view of oncoming traffic. Others where for me being a bit too relaxed such as speed at a roundabout and checking my mirrors to move into a lane to turn right.

If I was to drive now I would probably be quite bad as I havent driving for some time.

My sister failed 5 times and one of my mates has failed his theory test twice and has failed the driving test 3 times to date

my aunt did the american one and she was saying it was so easy too, i know it differs from state to state, but after what she told me i was wondering are people allowed drive here on American licenses? they really shouldn't be, at least without doing a real driving test!

    LOL, as opposed to what?

And yes, there ARE rules for people driving in Ireland on a US licence... just as there are for people driving in America who have Irish licences and of course the same for pretty much every other country.... but sure ya knew that already. Another well researched and thought out post....

I'm a female and it took two or more attempts
Was chatting to my sister today about this subject and it seems both we and most of our female friends passed our tests first time, but both our partners and their mates took two or more attempts before they passed.

Statisically, men have a higher first time pass rate than women, but I've not found this to be the case of people I know personally.

So, guys and girls, did ye pass first time, or did it take a few attempts?

I passed the first time :)

I passed first time but the instructor REALLY wanted to fail me, and did everything he could to do so.

    Think I'm exaggerating?

Final stages of the test, driving back to the centre, 3 miles to go, roads I know like the back of my hand after a lifetime of constant usage. Going round the inside of a long bend on a country road at about 50pmh (suitable speed, and matched with speed of cars in front of and behind me). A row of cars coming the opposite way. Flock of birds fly over, very low, coming from in front of me. One of them hits the windscreen and bounces off and over the car. Windscreen is not damaged. Mark against me!

How could I have avoided this?

Hit the brakes? Dangerous, probably would have caused an accident with vehicle behind. Instant fail.

Hit the accelerator to be further forwards to miss that bird? Dangerous, would have caused accident with vehicle in front (I'd have rammed him while cornering). Instant fail.

Swerve left? Off the road, crash, instant fail.

Swerve right? Into oncoming traffic, certain crash, possible death, if I survived a definite fail and ban for driving would have been received, possibly prison time for causing deaths. Oh, and an instant fail.

I have to LOL at how nearly everyone says they passed it first time, with flying colours, and after one 20 minute lesson.

So like, nobody out there is a crap driver? Or needed lessons? And nobody ever fails their first test? haha, right.......
