i passed the test the first time no bother, but i must say it was the most nervous i have ever been.

Think that's bad, you should try a pilot's test. (Passed that one first time, too)

    Passed first time -

Though lets be honest - The test is roughly 30-40 minutes long and you're able to make 7 biggish mistakes - so take a 35 minute test avarage divided by 7 mistakes = 5 minutes/mistake

So if you can't drive for 5 minutes without doing anything stupid you really shouldn't be driving!

Failing your driving test and learner drivers shouldnt be allowed on the road at peak times - Its too danerous for us safe drivers to have to deal with these idiots!!!

    Passed on second attempt.

In fairness, my first test came through quicker than I expected and I had only ever had access to a car every second weekend for abut four months before the test.

I'm female and passed first time! My brother has already failed it twice and he's older than me which makes it all the sweeter!:D

The first test was before July 2008, and failed. I didn't take the test seriously, because I wasn't paying that much in insurance on my provisional anyway. Once they started dishing out the fines and stopping L-plate drivers, that was the kick up the arse I needed. Passed the second time around.

Failed first time. Was driving about a week. One major fail. Guy was standing in the middle of the road as I came around a corner. I stopped and waved him on. Apparently that's a fail.

Tried again the following week and passed. I was last for the day. When I came back, the building was empty and all lights were off. I was scared. The instructor gave out to me for reversing around a corner with one hand  Still passed!

Passed first time when i just turned 18 on what was supposed to be my 1st day in college with a grumpy old man testing me and i was sure he was going to fail me, delighted he passed me because it has given me bragging rights over my friends to this day...

Also i passed the test on September 11th, whatever way eejit did my licence put it down the wrong way and wrote it 9/11/2005, so 9/11, where it should be 11/9/2005. They also put my mixed up my first name with my surname, dopes.

and yes when talk of licences comes up when we're drinking i normally get a few minutes of talking about mine...

why the hells do i have no real friends?

I passed mine first go with one grade 1 mark.
Passed first time personally I found it a piece of piss got one grade 1 and only took one lesson to see what the test involved:D. Anyway enough bragging :o

ahhh me too :) to be fair the instructor was excellent i got his number off a friend and he was highly recommended, in that 1 lesson an hour before my test he helped me pass! i had been driving for 6 months previously, i was one week over the 6 month minimum wait to do your test :)
I still think the test is a little dangerous with all the exaggerated movements of the head which take your eyes off the road for too long instead of the much more acceptable glance in the mirrors. Plus I cant understand how the test does not involve parell parking or for that matter knowing how to change a tyre??

i agree 100% with your movement/mirrors point but in my test i had to parallel park and demonstrate how to change a tyre! (where i lived at the time had on street parallel parking so i was a pro at it at this stage, also had 4 tyres changed so knew that like the back of my hand too)

my aunt did the american one and she was saying it was so easy too, i know it differs from state to state, but after what she told me i was wondering are people allowed drive here on American licenses? they really shouldn't be, at least without doing a real driving test!

Was just wondering how many people would have been driving on their provisional license, before passing, without the required accompanying full license driver? Or how many people currently holding provisionals, drive unaccompanied?

I sit my test in 10 days. I think I will only fail if nerves get the better of me and I fall to pieces. I learned to drive with a screaming baby in the back of the car, so generally I'm not too fazed by distractions... but nerves might be different... I think I am a good driver, for my current level of experience and I would not deserve to fail, but we'll see. My test centre doesn't have a great pass rate.

I have never driven alone (as per the law), but all my friends and family think I'm crazy. It would seem that "everyone" drives unaccompanied. I just know it would be my luck to get fined. Also, I wouldn't take the risk insurance wise, especially when I have an infant in the car 99% of the time. Am I alone in this??

Never never, even my best friend was not allowed be my accompanying driver as she had her lic < 2 years

She had the nerve to get offended at me
and I was replying, you're not going to be paying the 1000 euro fine if I get caught are you? No? Then shut up

I passed before I even took the test. I walked in to the office, the examiner took one look at me and said "Well, you look like you know what you're doing, so you've passed".

So, a note to everyone...when you walk into the examiners office, have a gun tucked into your belt. It's really effective.

Passed mine on my first go at 17, was delighted as i had to wait nearly a year for the test. People kept telling me that they would fail me for any reason just because i was a young lad! I realize thats all bull now but at the time it had me very worried!

Passed first time. Made an absolute balls of a hillstart leaving the test centre, and your man starts tapping away on his PDA, was using one instead of the sheet. I assumed by the amount of taps that I had instantly failed, so thought **** it, I'll just get on with it. Got back to the test centre and he asks me to sign a cert of competency, I instantly asked had he given me the right form an if he had seen my hill start. He laughed and said everything else was fine, just got 3 grade 2s for the ****up.

There is nothing quite like the sheer joy of peeling off the L plates, forgetting about 10 and 2 steering and tearing around a sharp corner in fifth gear with the clutch in after passing your test.

Same happened to me with a reverse around the corner!

Passed 1st time on '07. The instructor had drilled into me the importance of mirror signal manoeuvre and he was spot on. Every time the tester opened his mouth he checked to see if I had looked in the mirror first. Id say this is where most people fall down.

    I passed first time.

However... I did a pre-test immediately before the real thing, and that was a total disaster. I was so nervous that I pretty much forgot how to drive. I failed to notice a zebra crossing, almost killing a pensioner in the process (that woman owes her life to dual-controls). Forgot to indicate twice. Stalled three times when attempting to pull out from an awkward junction. Mounted the pavement while doing the 'turnaround'. Did 60km/h in a 30 zone. And a whole litany of other things that I've conveniently blanked out of my mind. After that, my expectations for the test were so low that my nerves disappeared.

Took me 4 times to pass, 1st time I wasn't ready but came close got 11 marks, 2nd time it just pissed rain all day long and I made a few basic errors, not my day, 3rd time got 7 blue and 1 red mark, the red was for going straight on at left turn only, I was concentrating too hard on getting my clutching right and didn't heed the traffic signs, was expecting him to direct me got to the junction and asked 'Where do you want me to go' He said 'just follow the sign' took a guess and was wrong, got 4 marks the next time
