offensive security.com have a section on their website that has a metasploit tutorial (I cant remember for sure but I think the tutorial is included with BT4-final.

apart from that, I can only suggest that you use google. there are plenty of articles and step by step out there about metasploit, not least of which is the metasploit website itself.

The best way to learn about the metasploit exploits/payloads and auxiliaries is metasploit. each payload etc will have a header that explains what vulnerability it targets and what CVE reference it came from.

As LoLth said Off-Sec have VERY good training.

    http://www.offensive-security.com/metasploit-unleashed-training/msfu-update/

There was also a Metasploit class in the Kentuckiana ISSA :

On May 8th 2010 the Kentuckiana ISSA held a 7 hour Metasploit class at the Brown hotel in Louisville Ky. Proceeds from the class went to the Hackers For Charity Food for Work program. The instructors were David "ReL1K" Kennedy, Martin "PureHate" Bos, Elliott "Nullthreat" Cutright, Pwrcycle and Adrian "Irongeek" Crenshaw. Below are the videos of the event. I hope you enjoy them, and if you do please consider donating to Johnny Longs' organization. This should be more Metasploit than you can stand!

Honestly i prefer http://www.offensive-security.com/metasploit-unleashed which seems extremal well laid out and easy to read.

Best way really is to have an open copy of backtrack and a couple of vms running vulnerable services. You can read and try learn all you want but you're never going to remember unless you constantly using metasploit as you learn.
