GParted Crashing......

    I want to format an external hard drive to NTFS on Xubuntu 10.10.

    I installed gparted but when I run gparted it crashes out with the following:
    me@desktop:~$ sudo gparted
    [sudo] password for me:
    ======================
    libparted : 2.3
    ======================

    glibmm-ERROR **:
    unhandled exception (type std::exception) in signal handler:
    what: basic_string::_S_create

    aborting...
    me@desktop:~$

    I then tried my knoppix live cd but that looks for a password when I try to run gparted on that. :confused::confused:

    Is gparted broken on (X)Ubuntu 10.10 ? Google searches seem to suggest so.
    What else can I try?

    I used gparted on Xubuntu 10.10 a couple of weeks back and it worked fine (formatting an external EX2 HD). I can check what version is installed tonight if you like.

    Thanks but it's ok. I just burned a live CD from Gparted - Sourceforge and it doesn't crash so problem solved. :)

    LOL got there before I could suggest it. I would recommend Part Magic 5 as it has a whole load of other useful tools loaded with it too including GParted.
