    Is anybody vaccinating for bvd?

I did a few blood tests, bvd antibodies showed up, as yet I don't vaccinate. Haven't found any PI s yet, but will do more sampling at next herd test to try and find any that might be there.

If it's already in the herd is it worth vaccinating? What does it cost per cow? When would be the best time to vaccinate? By the way I don't buy in, except stock bulls for breeding.

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

if you are milk recording, get a bvd pcr test done on the bulk tank, it will tell you if there is a pi cow milked into the tank. best to do it when all cows are going into the tank. a lot cheaper €26 i think.
wont tell you any thing about youngstock though, but if there is no pi in the milkers then there is good odds for the youngstock.

I've vaccinated my cows and bull with bovilis for the last 5 years. Lost a calf that just dropped dead in the field and the vet tested him and he showed up as having it. Have had a good run of calves since i started to vaccinate. Not many scours and no unexplained drop-deads. I can visually see the difference in herd health since I started doing it.
