It not just 240 Papers they have to Look At
I think they have to Look at all of Doyles 10035 First Pref .. Votes --and see what the Next or next or next Pref is --is that Correct ???
    How does PR Work

AFAIK, they won't look at all of Doyle's votes but a random sample of them and then apportion the percentages out from them and distribute votes.

In interests of fairness they should look at every vote and record the preferences but that takes too long, so random samples is what they use.

    18th count now in

    Brady +42
    Donnelly +37

Is this all we are waiting on now?

Have Fitzgerald's votes, who was the last eliminated candidate been transferred?

Dont think its looking too good for J Brady -- although he picked up 10.1& FP votes and with Donnely on 9.3% FP... cant see Brady picking up !! - Unlickely that a FG vote will go to SF ?

From what I can tell we are only distributing the surpluses of the FG candidates who are exceeding the quota. FitzG's have already been distributed.

    After count 18

    John Brady (SF) 9839 (+42)
    Stephen Donnelly (Ind) 9946 (+37)
    Anne Ferris (Lab) 11042 (+94)
    Simon Harris (FG) 11459 (+67)

Billy Timmins' surplus of 116 votes now being distributed

so nobody (by my reckoning) can reach quota even if they get all the surplus votes..so will she call it then?

Yep, defo, Harris and Ferris will be elected without reaching quota as will one from Brady and Donnelly, then tomorrow will be a recount from 13th count and then there will be Dick Roche's court challenge when he arrives tomorrow with George Bush's lawyers!

Yea, think we can take it Donnelly has it as there is no way that Brady has gotten over 108 votes from Timmons surplus as most will go to Harris.

So all just depends now on Brady asking for a recount, which I will assume will be tomorrow and not tonight.

Either way, recount is only from 13th count not 1st so won't take that long.

    I'm Confused !!!
Have a look at the two links under.
In longford after the First Count they got rid of 5 candidates and re-distributed there votes ...
While in Wicklow after the first Count they eliminated only one candidate ...while ( to me anyway) they could have eliminated the Bottom 12 ??

    http://www.rte.ie/news/election2011/results/longford-westmeath.html

Does Anybody yknow of any Internet Site --that explains PR ??..

In Longford-Westmeath they eliminated the 5 candidates because the total of their votes together was 1,029 which was less than Mary O'Rourke's 3,046 votes in 6th place so the bottom 5 had no chance of surpassing her.

In Wicklow as there were so many candidates with small amounts of votes the gaps weren't big enough so they had to be eliminated one at a time.

    Hope this helps.

Here's a Wiki to help explain

Counts 14 to 19 to be recounted tomorrow from 3pm.

Result won't change in my opinion.
