Water troughs

    Hi all,
    I am looking to buy a water trough for 35 store bulocks. In your experience what size would I require. Was looking at one that holds 70 gallons (rectangle) and another which holds 180 gallons (round), which would suffice. Thanks in advance.

    i put in 25 180gal jfc troughs around the paddocks 3 years ago- great job no more broken ball floats etc-and cows and heifers are never fighting

    are they the big round ones? we took them back out , they where being thrown all over the field when empty and very hard to get them level so the water wasnt over flowing

    yeah they are the big round black ones-they are never empty except when i clean them out- had to start laying concrete under them cause they tended to buckle in the middle and leak-depended how un level the ground was

    we dug out ground and set them in , they where a total pain in the arse , even put a tap on the pipe going up to drinker to turn off as soon as cows left paddock. total pain to empty them to get them level.Then to wait until they filled to see if they where level. Give me a good old concrete drinker any day

    know all about that-still wouldnt go back to the half barrels

    Growing up as a child, that was our job to 'water the cattle'. Stand filling 6 half barrels with a garden hose. When I think about it now, how archaic!:o I still can't fathom why the oul lad didn't just hook up a ball cock:rolleyes: Still, it made the cattle very tame. They'd pold back one after the other along the same old dirt track they'd worn for themselves. Twas also a chance to get them back near the house to ring for the bull for any cow in heat.
