Patenting an idea

So I have an idea and want to get some form of patent before i say it to anyone. How would I go about this ? how much would it cost? thanks in advance:D

You'd want to start by talking to a patent attorney or if funds are low the local enterprise board. A world wide patent is in the $100,000 region and even then often its easy to get around a patent by improving upon the design or changing some minor details.
