Save Ireland's forests.

I love to walking in coilte managed forests and was horrified to read this yesterday.They really want to turn us in to battery hens with corporations taking over everything.Please sign.

"The Irish Government is moving closer to a huge sell-off of the public forests, currently managed by Coillte (The Irish Forestry Board), to private investors. An area greater than 1 million acres, equivalent to two medium sized counties, will be lost forever. This will include some of our most valuable native woodlands, wild places and some of the last refuges of our native flora and fauna.

Interest has been expressed by Swiss finance company Helvetia Wealth - who own the International Forestry Fund (IFF) - chaired by Bertie Ahern, (ex-prime minister of Ireland) as well as The China Investment Corporation.

Please sign this petition now to tell the Irish Government that Ireland's Forests are not for sale. These forests are the inheritance of the Irish children."

That's not entirely correct. Public forests have been valued as have every other public asset or company in the country. There has been no suggestion by the current government to sell off forests - in fact they are quite against it. It was merely a suggestion in An Board Snip to raise finances. However, it was opposed by the 2 parties in government and the incoming government parties are very much opposed to it also.

There's two reasons I think why this is getting such attention.

1) there's a similar discussion in the UK media.

2) there's real interest in buying the coillte forests as they're the ideal product for private investors. trees are not members of the CPSU.

Break it up andSell it or refrom it( not likely),
e400000+ for a semi state ceo that not made a profit for over 3 years is typical for the way things are run here. Collite is a cash cow for gov cronies.
who payed all those fines collite got from the eu for mis use of eu funds for forestry?:mad: rotten to the core.
