Tactical my ass. When I was a raft guide we called them river shoes; they're nothing new, but of course you can sell pretty much anything to airsofters by marketing it as if a soldier somewhere might use it.

or in this case by putting the word tactical in it..
seriously, unless these sandals make no noise and kill enemies there is nothing tactical about them...

Do you seriously think that if there were a tactical military situation that required insertion by whitewater raft (and presumably extraction by BASE jump and mountain board) there wouldn't already be a movie about it? :)

A 30mm grenade launcher, yes. Then again, the primary side is also supposed to fire 10mm caseless rounds from a 99 round (95 if you've got the downgrade version) magazine. However, it is also a movie...

The prop for the movie was built, as is well known, around a Thompson, but the "grenade launcher" was a Remington 870 shotgun with a SPAS grip, so that video is pretty close to spot on.

    Edit:
Actually, hang on... I just noticed what's written on his t-shirt. Didn't Bapty actually make the original Pulse Rifles for Aliens? Lemming, help me out here.

cool :) thats pretty interesting. doesn't really explain how the water travels up the path though

It dosen't actually. It's an optical illusion, the way the camera is positioned :)

but then how does the wheel move when the water hits it? must be some illusion cus it looks like the water is hitting the wheel from the top :P

    Perpetual motion is impossibe.

Where is NakedDex when you need him......

It is an illusion, a good one, but still an illusion :)

Meant to post this yesterday, but I completely forgot....

Its based on a drawing by a surrealist called MC Escher.

Do a Google image search on his name - some of his stuff will blow your mind.

You will respect the laws of thermodynamics.

Also, as said, it's an optical illusion based on perspective. It's actually very hard to explain how it works without seeing it from another angle, but if you look at the inside pillar on each "tower" and look at their position in relation to the same pillar on the opposite side you'll notice what's called a perspective depth anamoly. Basically, you'll notice something is wrong but won't be sure what. It's built flat, or sometimes with one canted ramp added in depending on design. Seeing it from another angle would show that it's very long as opposed to very tall. The water is actually pumped up to the top inside a hollow pillar just as it meets the end of the run.

It's based on this particular Escher:

Or to give an easier, more visual description, if anyone has seem Inception where DiCaprio explained the idea of building a perpetual look (i.e. never ending stairs) - remember the bit where the perspective shifts and you can see that the stairs end in mid air?
Well - same same but different.

It's easier done with CG though. To physical build it is quite difficult. The "canal" - for want of a better description of the water channel - is actual flat on the ground and stretches back away from the camera but gets bigger the further away it is. This combination of size versus perspective forces you to think all components are on varying planes but within a certain area (or to quote Father Ted: "Small... far away.").
The rightmost tower is actually built out along the canal path in two sections that are actually completely unconnected, they just seem to be a single unit from this camera angle. The leftmost tower is one piece but not as deep as it looks.

It's not perpetual motion by any manner or means, but it is a very clever build.

On that note, there's a number of Eschers done using Lego toward the bottom of this page.
