not my land !!

Not sure if this is the right place to ask ... Recently a farm of land bordering my house was sold. There is a piece of land about 80 foot long and maybe 10 foot wide which joins onto some out buildings in my back yard. We have used this all my life, I'm in my late 40s, its also always been divided from the rest of the land by a fence, I think it was a cart track in days gone by.
It was only when I saw the map at the land auction that I realised it did'nt belong to my family's land ! So now I'm wondering where I stand, I've used it for a garden for years and would like to keep it. I plan on approaching the new owners to ask if I could buy it but would like to know if anyone has had any experience of this happening.
I'm more than willing to pay for the land as I'm not out to steal this land so thats not an issue, I'm just curious as to how often this happens...:)

It was sold recently: presumably solicitors haven't "completed" yet.

Based on your adverse possession, it maybe IS your land (presuming it's enclosed to you, and not some kind of easement/ight of way.)

And you wouldn't be stealing anything.

You could point it out to the solicitor handling the sale (auctioneer will know who). Buyer may want to pay less now.

Probably best to reg. the land in your name once it's sorted out.

I bet the buyer didn't walk the land with the map!
If he did, he would have queried that strip.

if you have used this land for more than 12 years i think without paying any rent you can claim squatters rights and its yours, that was the law i dont know if its still the same.

not my land !!
