haha adrian lewis beaten 6-4 by steve beaton in his first comp since becoming world champ. he was shocking, looks like he has been hammered for all of january. beaton destroyed him in the first 5 legs and fell off a bit to let lewis catch up but lewis darts were awful.

wade was pathetic too and has put on a crapload of weight and looks desperate.

Can't believe some punters on betfair were offering Beaton +3.5leg handicap  I thought Lewis would be dodgy after he over performed(IMO) at the WC's.

I haven't been watching the games online but reading on other forums people who paid £6.99 to watch it on the PDC website are fuming with the very poor quality picture and the frequent buffering, not good enough by the PDC. It's also been said about the poor crowds attending the event there, this tournament's future is not looking good!

yeah the camera work and overall quality is ****. not worth 7 quid at all.
i doubt this tourney will ever get coverage again.

Lewis is known for his 'blind' 180 shot....King looks like he's playing with his eyes closed and he's 4 nil up on Taylor!

Apparently he's suffering from a migraine....he'll want more migraines if they make him play like this

from what i hear lewis and wade are very heavy drinkers, you can see it in both of them, the picture of bad health.
dont think either will feature this year in the big tournaments. Anderson and whitlock imo will have a good year, and maybe king along with the reliable taylor

    Taylor 13-12 Anderson

Didn't see the final but sounds like a cracking game. Pity Anderson didn't win. I watched the quarter finals today and the crowd was very small. It's possible this could be the last player's championship.

The PDC have some tough decisions to make in 2011 I reckon. With a lack of sponsorship and TV stations cutting back on sports coverage to save money I'd say we're looking at 1 or 2 top tournaments been dropped. At least the premier league,UK Open,World Matchplay,World Grand Prix,Grand Slam Of Darts and World Championship are contracted to Sky so that's still a healthy amount of darts guaranteed on our TV screens. However securing sponsorship for some of these events could be a problem.

One tournament I would like to see saved would be the World Cup team event,I thought this was 1 of the best TV tournaments of 2010.

yes good final and also a great semi final between Taylor and King. Taylor very patchy at times and his new darts are definetly preventing him from getting 3 in the one triple.
Looked out of it with 315 left against king and hit a 180 135 out on the bull to take it from King, who was 5 nil up at one stage in a race to 10.
Andersons also very pacthy and missed doubles (again) was his downfall. He was first to the double in the first 5 legs and ended up 3 -2 behind after 5. Great out of 128 from Taylor to win it 13 - 12, T20 T20 D4. Surprised he did not go the percentage way of 18's as anderson was on a 100+ finish.
    Crowds looked very small.

After Phil "The Tinkerman" Taylor was at it again with changing and messing about with flights. After about 12 legs of the semi final against King he went away during 1 of the breaks, and grabbed his old darts(and setup) that he used so successfully last year! He hit 4 180s in 4 following legs(dont think he hit 1 previously) and won the match!

The players championship takes place this weekend in Derby with the first round of action today and Jamie Caven wins the tournament defeating Adrian Lewis 6-2 in the final.

Ex BDO player John Henderson hit a 9 darter in his 2nd round game against Andy Hamilton to earn him a £800 bonus in his whirlwind start to his PDC career.

Does anybody know if he is playing in the youth tour that gives automatic entry into the pro events??

Superb win for John Part in today's players championship beating Mark Walsh 6-0 in the final. Good to see Part back to winning ways after a few lean years.

I don't think so. I'm sure he went to the PDC qualifying school event and failed to qualify from that so I presumed that was him ineligible to play in the players championship tournaments but obviously there's some other way he can enter these tournaments?

The way I understand it is that they go down the q-school ranking table to take any entries not filled by those with a tour card.

He probably got in that way.

Dicie will probably explain it better as he was at the q-school.

A round of players championship events are taking place this weekend in Crawley with the first tournament completed earlier this evening. Paul Nicholson won the final defeating Adrian Lewis 6-4.

It turned out to be a great day for William O'Connor who reached the quarter finals, his 2nd this year in a players championship tournament and earning himself another £1000 towards the rankings and putting himself in contention for a place in this year's World Matchplay in Blackpool.

His wins today included a 3rd round victory over Colin Osborne 6-4 and he followed that up with a 6-3 victory over Jamie Caven in the 4th round before he was defeated 6-3 by Ronnie Baxter in the quarter finals. Well done Willie.

Good start to the day for Willie O'Connor,he won his 1st round game 6-2 against Simon Burt. He faces Ronnie Baxter in the next round and a chance for revenge for his defeat to him in yesterday's quarter final.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,328 ✭✭✭dartbhoy

Unfortunately Willie O'Connor was beaten 6-5 by Baxter in the 2nd round. All round a bad day for the Irish players with no Irish going past the 2nd round. However a good weekend for Willie in his quest to qualify for the World Matchplay with £1200 earned towards the rankings.
