dvb common interface on tv

    I've got a Toshiba XV 505 42" at home and I just noticed that it has a 'dvb common interface' on the side.

    I've tried to google it but I'm not sure what it's for. Is it of any use?

    Maybe a future pay DTT service CAM and card.

    yes, what The Cush says. Commonly called CI. The current version is CI+

    Any TV above a certain size must have one for EU market. It doesn't mean it will ever be used.

    TopUp TV on UK DTT uses a CAM and viewing card for CI+ slots for SkySports if you don't have/want a setbox with a built in topup TV card reader.

    There is unlikely to be a similar service here, if there was, it would use CI+, so likely wouldn't work on CI slot, so you'd need a set-box for Terrestrial PayTV if it started.

    Saorview is based on Nordig 2.2. For pay TV the Nordig 2.2 mandates CI+. But if BAI licenced some new pay TV operator they could probably do whatever spec they want as long as it's backward compatible for Saorview for the free channels.
