Vista Needs To Be Re-installed. Dell With No Disc. Options?

    Hi guys,

    Fixing a laptop for a friend, it has the Black Screen of Death. I have tried absolutely all available tips but it's screwed.

    The Dell Factory Restore doesn't work either so it looks like looks like the only option is to re-format and re-install Vista.

    Only problem is that he forgets if there was any OS discs that came with the laptop.

    Seeing as he owns a Vista licence is there any way to re-install Vista without paying for another licence?

    There's a good chance no disc came with the laptop, and the recovery partition was the only option for restore!

    assuming you've tried all kinds of repair and disk repair tools, your next bet would be to try and download a vista iso. As long as you still have your key, you should be grand. Getting a valid and legal iso might present more of a problem..<Snip>

    I actually meant to update this thread this morning.

    I had a copy of a Vista ISO lying around at home, no idea of the source being honest. I used this to install Vista, using the key on the Windows sticker on the bottom of the laptop.

    Once I installed the drivers I activated Vista without a hitch. I thought it might be a lot more hassle, with the activator being a pain or some issue with the version that was on the machine originally being a OEM version.

    I have to say I hate Vista's guts. I have a desktop and a laptop at home, the desktop on XP SP3 and the laptop on 7, thank god I missed out on Vista.
