I was travelling along this road a few days ago and it struck me that in the year 2011 this route is nothing short of an embarrassment and a total disgrace. It is dangerously narrow, is very twisty and belongs to the year 1911 and not 2011. It is a death trap.

If you compare it to the M6 motorway that traverses the south of the county the N5 is nothing more than a goat track. It is a complete farce.

When is this road going to be properly rebuilt and realigned? Anything is better than the current road.:(

I see that there was another fatal accident on this section of the N5. This road would be an embarrassment to a Third World Country.

It is frankly outrageous how long this road has been neglected when you consider the massive motorway building programme elsewhere in Ireland over the past 15 years.

I know that a bypass for Ballaghadereen is set to go ahead soon, but when will the rest of this atrocious goat track be replaced?

when there was money floating about years ago to upgrade the roads in the west of Ireland it all went to Mayo.
