Who snitched on Padraig Harrington?

What kind of pathetic, sad individual sitting at home feels the need to phone in and report Padraig Harrington for unwittingly moving his ball a few millimetres?

I am astounded at the disqualification of Padraig in Abu Dhabi. As a regular golfer myself I have to wonder is there no allowence for common sense in the world of sport any more? He gained no advantage whatsoever and it was totally accidental. And compare that to the overpaid diva soccer players such as Drogba diving every other week to deceive refs. What Harrington did was nothing.

Harrington is forever the gentleman. One of the nicest sports personalities you could meet. It was great to finally see him back on form after such a tough time in his career.

With so much doom and gloom, idiots and cheats in Government, it was great to have someone from Ireland that we could be proud of on the International stage. And that is why I have posted this in After Hours. I am appealing to the people of Ireland to help me expose the snitch who got Padraig disqualified. Lets shame this bitter person. And if we cant do that then lets just hope karma does exist and he gets reported for something himself very soon and suffers serve consequences.

    Treason!

He cheated, albeit unintentionally. I'd say if Harrington had known he'd gladly have called foul on himself...so what's the problem?

What's the reason for being reasonable?

    Is that an unreasonable question?

Probably someone whose bets would be effected favourably by Harrington's disqualification.

"After the e-mail arrived, Andy McFee, the European Tour's senior referee, had a sleepless night in Abu Dhabi. He viewed the video evidence about 60 times before concluding that Harrington's ball had indeed moved forward by the length of about one-and-a-half dimples.

Asked if he thought such an incident makes golf's rules look daft, McFee said: "Yes, I'd have to agree with that. The movement is so minimal. But it is clear that it moved. The rules deal in facts. Padraig is a class act."

Posting this in AH isn't going to get the best response, because if Harrington's shot was an AH post, the second post would be saying that he moved the ball - just for the thanks!

I think it's an awful shame that he was disqualified, but rules are rules. I don't know if there's any discretion allowed in applying those rules. If there is any discretion, he should not have been disqualified.

Damn rules fecking us over (*cough* World Cup *cough*.)

Actually did read 459 earlier. Must still have had it in my head! But it is my view. Padraig didnt see it. The Officials didnt see it. Common sense should prevail.

So has the identity of the snitch been made public?

    You can't cheat unintentionally.

What he did was inadvertent. He didn't even realise what had happened until he saw the slo-mo replay. The 2 shot penalty was stupid enough, since he gained no advantage, but the DQ was silly in the extreme.

I cant believe the OP called Drogba an overpaid diva. Have a look into the 3million of his own cash he used to build a hospital in the Ivory Coast, the children he flew to England to have life saving surgery which was funded by himself, his work with aids and malaria and the fact that he was in the Time Top 100 people last year for his charity work, then call him an overpaid diva. And BTW Harrington probably gets paid more than Drogba.

clearly he is overpaid as no one should be paid that much so as to afford to be able to do that!

It was done at the behest of a gambler, or more likely a bookie. In golf the big layers employ spotters to review footage for exactly this sort of thing. Some LATAM or APACS bookie had a big position on Harrington... then gets a friend of a friend to drop a dime (or in this case, an email).

Golf is unique in that rulings are made retrospectively, and games are over several days. Note; if the email was sent during play that day the Harrington could correct his card with the penalty. He was not disqualified for the moving ball, he was DQ'd for submitting a card with an incorrect score. Thats why the email was sent after end of play.

Golf is the new boxing - rife for gambling "intervention".
