since the beef mix is so dear and getting dearer does anybody just feed grain on its own along wit silage as the ton of grain wouldnt be as dear, would it be as good or better nutritional value for outyling heifers from 300kgs-350kgs or what do use more experienced farmers think.i remember reading it was better for finishing cattle than growing cattle i think....thanks

I thought a good ration for stores would be cheaper than barley at the price of it at the moment its only goin up 2. In answer to you question about nutritional values your store ration could be 16% protein whereas barley would only be 9% at the most.

Talk to ur local miller and get a look at their prices along with all the nutritional values.. It might help you decide which feed would be better for your heifers and which works out the cheapest.

Weve been feeding crimped wheat the last 2 winter working out cheaper than ration and thats acounting for minerals being added aswell to beef and dairy animals diets usually ration would contain a cartain amount of minerals but when we started using the crimp we decided we should add minerals to the diet aswell to supplement the crimp
