I wonder was one of them trying to make up numbers? News this morning was that Ahern wouldn't be voting.
I heard the opposite this morning, apparently he came in behind Brian Cowen, not that his vote is likely to have changed anything in Cowen's favour.

In fairness who didn't see that coming.

    What a joke

A storm in a tea cup and back to square one for FF at 14% maybe less as the stubborn bully Cowen not accepting the destruction he has caused will be a red rag to a bull for the electorate. Shows how weak FF are at the top not a man or woman ( Hanifin pathetic, call her mouse, squeak squeak) amongst them with any fibre.

I had heard a few days ago that Ahern would be voting from his hospital bed.

It was on RTE radio that he wouldn't be voting because he was recovering from operation in hospital. Maybe that changed during the day and I didn't catch it. My mistake :o

    Who didn't see this coming?

If, incredibly, Brian Cowen is retained it just shows how mediocrity, incompetence and abject failure is rewarded in this most bananaesque of republics.

Cowen has won. Expect the party to either tear itself apart, be obliterated even more than expected at the polls or preferably, all of the above.

    It would be.

Will they be released? Or will it be hear-say and rte "sources"?

i'm delighted FF passed this, he will now cost his party another few seats in the GE i'd say

What was the final vote numbers?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,630 ✭✭✭steelcityblues

Good - a massive loss in seats should be on the cards now!

That result probably suits Michael Martin.

Biffo will think he has won a general election. Go to the country FF and the voters will tell you what confidence we have in you.

haha what a result for the other parties, i get the feeling cowan is so addicted to power even if he leads them to 20 seats in the election he wont quit, ff wont unite like fg did,

So Cowen wins. I'm happy with this. A new face leading the party into the GE would give hope to the FFers who were starting to drift.
I reckon they would have gotten a lot more votes with Martin leading them.

That's what I think too, so do the people of Ireland want Brian Cowen as their leader for the next 5 years? It was surely worth 5 seats. The FF's who were swaying would of stayed if it wasn't Cowen leading the party now its hard to tell

It's official now. Fianna Fail will get exactly what they deserve at the next election and no backbencher can claim this mess was beyond their control.

    Vote Early, Vote Often.......................

Excellent news. Can't wait for the two stooges in my area to come canvassing now :D

Election now please. FF have tonight proven how spineless and incompetent they really are, completely oblivious to the fact that Brian Cowen has no credibility left with the public of this country. He has treated them as idiots from day one, as his puppets have tonight lost any chance of saving face or saving themselves in the next election. Goodbye FF, you have been a parasitic blight on this nation and you will be annihilated come election time.

lmao @ Ned O' Keefe. Made his way over to stand behind David Davin-Power waiting to be invited to do an interview. He was like one of those fellas at a GAA match behind the person being interviewed, trying to get on the telly.

I shouldn't be laughing though, these are the guys running our country :(
