A selfish Green Party trying deperately to gain some Kudos might walk out now before FF can end it all themselves.

I doubt it they want to force another religious green tax on us and then blame FF

Cowans decision and motion of support tactic has left the party in a mess.

If Cowan wins, Martin is up the creek as regards taking over after the GE.
If Cowan loses, he's out of a job anyway after the GE because no one (lets be honest, they all want their day at the top seat) really in the party wants him there as the head man any longer.

We know the party internally is split - and they know we know it - so this show of holding a support motion is a joke and can only be seen as a political manoeuvre by Cowen for Cowen to try and remain on after the GE - that is with one less opponent out of the way, Martin.

Apparently Micheál Martin is calling his own press conference later on this evening or tonight.

From Twitter: Reported on RTE that Foreign Affairs minister Micheal Martin is to give a press conference at about 7pm

Just goes to show how weak the pretenders to the FF throne are. They can't depose Biffo. Martin is just a smirking boyo, Lenny pure clown and Hanifin prim and proper will little know how. Its pure farce and the panto season is almost over.

It'll have to be. It's too important not to.

RTE hasn't said anything if they don't televise it, it will probably be on at the 9 o clock news.

    So he had two choices.

    A. Martin to cower and say words to the effect "well for the good of the party and the state we should all unite behind our leader and I will be voting for him in the motion of confidence"

    or

    B. Have balls to say what he's thinking and maybe what over 80% of this country wants - and thats for this fiasco to end with Cowen at head of the Titanic party!

I think he'll challenge Cowen. Martin, along with Lenihan and Hanafin, were very conspicuous by their absence at Cowen's press conference. We can all be sure that there's a great deal of cloak and dagger shenanigans taking place right now.

I agree FF are just a bunch of headless chickens, having no clue what they are doing, it is a shame Lenihan would not run for Leader of the party, the only one with the slightest bit of brain.

I suspect a lot of "you look after me - I'll look after you" and favour reminders are being thrown about

    Michael Martin has resigned/only joking

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,080 ✭✭✭kenco

So looks like Martin has been forced into a position. Doesn't instill confidence. Looks like his chance was last week and now he will lead the 'nos' but won't take over if they succeed. Hanafin must be very happy but there needs to be more from the cabinet that Martin for this to work...

Waiting for the "you'll burst the party" speil from this era Gerry Collins. Come on down Coughlan!!! Or maybe O'Keefe!!

Coughlan would be the worst thing for the country, she is a total idiot, she was minster for employment, but she got demoted to education, just shows how bad she is, i would rather have joan burton than her.

He has to be announcing a challenge, surely.

Otherwise he might as well retire.
