Andrews is the guy that said....he can see no reason why the actions of the church should be investigated in other diocesses.
We have nothing more to learn he said...

The guy is creepy! and with the title of 'Minister for Children' makes him even more so. It would be sad to think that these are the 'young guns' of Fianna Fail.

something in Drumm's language that rings true.

i suppose at the end of the day, FF being so close to the mega rich business world it was natural for Cowen to side with their concerns, genuinely believing it was for the good of the country perhaps, but certainly good for business and therefore proving FF policies were working.

i think it reflects the philosophy prevalent at the time, in essence McCreevy's neo-classical approach to economics which requires having significant fate in the amoral purity of the mkt, but also unavoidably includes a trust in the business elite - after all that's what 'light-touch regulation' firmly rests upon. And therefore Cowen and FF deserve all the abuse they get, not matter how 'honest'.

of course Enron etc were seen as unique - not typical.

and they call communists economically naive.

    Good post.

Reminds me of when the Germans were telling us around '04 to clamp down on certain ongoings in the IFSC, Micheal Martin tells them, 'we plan further light-touch regulation'. He'd make for a fine leader,,,,,, lol

    Here are the tweets!
Sunday Times splash tomorrow - Micheal Martin told Cowen to step down last Monday night, and gave him a week to do so #ffheave

Sunday Times also reveals that Mary Hanafin has also told Cowen he shouldn't lead party into election #ffheave. He's gone, folks

He has to either sack them and face a leadership challenge or resign.

Business post is saying "senior ministers have told Cowen to go". They say Brian Lenihan is among them.

The Sindo is running with "Martin gearing up for a full-on challenge if Cowen doesn't go in next few days."

Both lifted from Twitter. Looks like game over for Cowen!

Just saw on twitter that Martin and Lenihan have been running consultations over the last few days whilst Cowen has been conducting his own. This explains their silence recently, not that anyone was in doubt to begin with. Even Miriam O' Callaghan picked it up on Thursday's Prime Time when she said that they were conspicuous by their lack of appearance.

And the rest too please god. They are all part of the corrupt government that brought this country to ruins. They are only begging for votes so they are at this stage.

18 members of the parliamentary party can force a leadership contest.

They are spoilt for choice with prospective new Candidates for the leadership of Fianna Failure. All of them poor. Interestingly will the new leader be Taoiseach? Lousy has said he will not support a new Taoiseach........hm we will see he is easily won over. How about going to the country FF while you are at it and then you won't have to worry about a new leader as hopefully your party will be decimated. I think Biffo will have to be dragged out as he will tough it out.

Just a small point here but do you think along with Cowan that all of the Sinn Fein party should be marched into Mountjoy ? If not why not
em why?? for having different opinions than you?

No I want to avoid double standards. If Cowan should be jailed for "alleged" corruption then surely Sinn Fein should be jailed for " alleged" bank robberies, alleged murder, alleged drug dealing, alleged shooting of Garda Gerry MC Cabe"

For once, I actually agree with you.

We also have to start somewhere.

Fine but if we want to clean up the show lets make sure we clean all the show and not only what's popular to the masses

Obviously not, considering the reaction some of us get around here when we point out FF corruption.

    Completely agreed again!

But like I said, we have to start somewhere, and the guys that cost this country billions seems like a good place to start, don't you think ?

They are worse than poor, they are appalling.
A couple of school teachers ,a social worker, and a barrister.
Says it all about our political system when you have such incompetent people running to be leader of a party.

I have no idea what that means, because it looks like you're trying to imply that I'm not "a democratic thinking person", and that - because it's directed at me rather than a post - is personal, and therefore against the rules, so it couldn't possibly be that.

Anyway, can we get back on-topic.......

This is the post I answered

"Hope Clown doesn't take Porky Pigs advice of committing suicide. Hope he is watched 24/7.

He needs to be marched into mountjoy where they will kill him there"

Are you telling to me that the above as posted was on topic.

Speaking of democracy, FF have denied the nation that for about 18 months or so in blocking the bye-elections that's what I call double standards.
