How do I safely remove a toilet (permanently)?

We have a toilet in an outside shed and we want to get rid of it and tile over the floor. I know how to remove a toilet and replace it with another one, but what do I do when removing one completely? It feeds in to the same sewage line as the toilets in the main house. Someone suggested that I ram down some rags and newspapers and then fill the pipe back to floor level with cement, plugging it up. This seems a bit crude - can anyone advise?

dont ram anything down it, you can buy caps in most builder providers for capping 4'' waste. if its a old clay type pipe, you can get an adaptor to go into that then a normal cap to seal it off.
its unwise to cover up junctions in existing pipework so if you can avoid it and put some sort of hatch or access panel over the junction, failing that make a note of which tile its under.;)

Bang on... Could not be said better...

Dont ram anything down it... Also be aware sometimes changing one system can have an effect on another. For example blocking this up might cause a siphoning effect in your house so go with the blank cap. Flush the chain a couple of times in the house and if your happy tile away making a note..

Thanks guys. It's a normal plastic pipe so I guess there won't be any problem capping that? Luckily it's a terminal junction (as in it's like a cul de sac, all the other toilet outlets are downstream from it) and it has rarely been used, so hopefully it won't affect the rest of the system. Cheers again.
