Anyone know how I could convert a windows rar files containing a film to a format that will support and play on a multimedia player or play on a dvd. At the moment I am able to play the film using media player classic or windows media player on my pc but these files wont play on my multimedia player for my TV.

    Help needed.

go to the folder that the rar files are in double click on the first one you should end up with a new file at the bottom of the list of rar files try playing this one (probaly a avi file)

rar is a compressed file format, essentially reducing the size of a file so it takes up less disk space.

to get at the contents of the file, you need to decompress the .rar file (same goes for .zip, .tar, etc. etc.)

right click on the file and click on "Extract" or "Extract here.." and the actual contents will be decompressed. the actual format will more likely be .avi or .mov or something like that.

I download audio/visual files from the internet but I can never play the ones that are RAR files. Everytime I download one, it tells me that windows cannot play/open this file. I even use the internet help option that pops up and still the RAR files won't play. Is there a way to open them, is there a secret? Thank You.

Thats because you need WinRar to open a rar file! Its not itself a video file.
    Its free anyway. - http://www.rarlab.com/

You need to install winrar from http://www.rarlab.com . Once that is installed and you have a *.rar file downloaded just right click on it and got to extract to here. A new file should be in the folder and thats the actual file.
