Anyone own or regularly use a Torq Xponent? Found one for a good price in the States and was thinking about getting one.

Was thinking of a Xone DX / D but I can't justify the sheer cost.

I have one and I really like it. It's purely a toy for me. By that I mean, I'm a bedroom dj, and happy to remain as one.

It's so easy to use, can be played straight out of the box and it's a fairly sturdy piece of kit. Jog wheels are great and I really like Torq too. But you can get Traktor mappings too. One of the lads on here is selling a VCI 100....that might be worth considering too.

I had one and loved it. I have to say when playing out on a big system, the sound quality is not 100% up to scratch - but if you are only a bedroom/party dj its fine. In many ways I actually preferred it to my VCI + Traktor. It's not as good as doing everything for you as tractor is, so in essence it seems a little bit more involved.

Thanks for the input folks. I'm kinda at that stage where I spend €2000 or just keep it as a hobby. I'm leaning towards a hobby, as I feel the Xponent would be grand for the bedroom but also have some weight to use on a bigger system.

Just doing some further reading on this, the Xponent sound quality seems to crop up in every review. Is it really that bad? I have a few external sound cards but it utterly defeats the point if I have to use it through a mixer.

EDIT: Little bit of further reading suggests Torq software is the problem. Users report playing out using Traktor the sound quality is better. Something to do with the bass? Seems to be cutting lower frequencies in Torq.

The only controller I've heard that has the best sound card is the Xone D series, but thats way out of my price range.

Anyone have a good controller with an inbuilt sound card? My main reason is I don't want to have to run through a mixer for crossfading / outputting. Just more kit to carry.

Without an inbuilt sound card or if I have to go through a mixer to crossfade, I may as well get a Denon DNSC2000

I'd just go for the Hercules RMX then - cheap as chips and will probably do everything you need. Its prob what i'd buy if just wanted something really simple. Comes with one of the basic editions of Traktor

Cheers Rob. I would be interested as to how they work out. But I'm increasing my gear bag if I go the SC2000 route (Two Controllers, Laptop, Mixer, USB Sound Card) This is opposed to a Xponent and a Laptop. However in their defense the SC2000's look a lot more professional.

From looking at the market, there is actually a sizeable hole for a high spec controller with in-built sound card. The Xone's are too expensive while some of the lower end stuff is too cheap.

Native Instruments S4 possibly fills this? I seem to only engage in threads where the S4 pops up  Never have anything constructive to say in others :P

if its for bedroom then the single unit would do the trick with its duel deck mode. ill let you know hoe feasable it actually is to use it though.

Its a very nice controller but the price is pure crazy. It does everything the Xponent does (At a quick glance) And I don't think I could justify the price when your getting close to second hand Xone 3D's. I also would have passed the DX in terms of price. I know the DX is soundcard-less but I know A&H have exceptional build quality and know what they are at.

Then again, at S4 price range, I'm just in reach of second hand CDJ1000's or new CDJ350's.

TBH, if I was spending €800+ on an S4 I'd save a little more and buy a 3D. Xponent however at the moment just coming in as an all round winner.

Suppose here is the question, if someone here had €1000 to spend, what would you buy new or second hand?

Likewise, if you have €500 to spend, what controller would you buy? (Hypothetical second hand included)

i sold my xone 3d for 750 or 800 i think, had about 40 hours use max, no lie.

wouldnt spend that kinda money on another controller again.

Well the reason why I got the S4 was for ease of use with Traktor, and also the new version of the Traktor software.

The S4 and the DX are the same price. One comes with Itch, the other with Traktor. Both are complete solutions and all you need is a laptop with it. Personal preference between the software but both can be mapped for the other anyway.

The only major physical difference between the two are the jog wheels. The DX will probably have better sound quality than the S4 though.

Pros of the S4 are the loop recorder and sample decks.

I was planning on buying the Xponent for a while as it looks like a decent controller, but the reviews on sound quality bothered me. When it came to buying a controller, I had the extra money and the S4 was just coming out so I went for that.

I also had used Traktor quite a bit so was used to the interface and didn't fancy using Torq instead.

    €1000- i'd buy a rane mixer and two 1210's
    €500- i'd buy the maschine

I was excited about the S4 when it first leaked, but when it came out, it just seemed like it was overkill. Yes it does loads of fancy things but in fairness most people are only going to use the basics 99% of the time.

I wish they just made a better VCI-100
