Sony's 5 year warranty - does it apply to gifted items from across the border?

I recently was given a new Sony TV by a family member in the North and they didn't know what the story was with the 5 year warranty down here.

    1) If something happens to my TV, am I in a sticky situation or does the manufacturer warranty apply universally?

    2) If something happened to it, would they want proof of purchase down here?

    3) Would I need to bring it up north?

    It was bought via amazon.

    Thanks!!

Surely you should read the terms and conditions attached to the warranty. As I understand it, it's up to the manufacturer to specify if their warranty is transferable to a different owner or to an different jurisdiction.
