and stick in your login details do you get back a number between 0 and 333?

Then you're using the wrong login details. You need to use the details you'd use to log in here: http://webtext.three.ie/login.jsp

It's a separate login to the my3 one.

Big fan of this programme but would appreciate it if anyone has any advice.

I'm using Cabbage version 15 on my ZTE Blade. The programme works fine with texts being sent to Irish numbers. However texts to numbers in the UK and abroad are not getting through. I've adjusted the way that the numbers are stored in my contacts list (from +44 etc to 0044 etc) but that has made no difference.

All texts are being sent according my 02 bill.

    Any ideas?

Yeah deffo the right number as texts sent the normal way go through fine. May be something to do with the phone I'm using, a Orange San Francisco.

If you log onto the O2 website and on the web text page click "sent webtexts", can you see the text there?

And is the status delivered, not delivered, sent etc?

If the text isn't there at all it's a problem with Cabbage.

If it's in that list but the number isn't in the right format (i.e. doesn't start with +44 or 0044) either cabbage isn't sending it correctly or you entered it incorrectly.

If it's in the list and the number is right but the status is sent or not delivered it means that either the person doesn't have their phone switched on or O2 doesn't support sending to that network (very unlikely)

Downloaded cabbage today for my HTC Desire HD and I have to say I am very happy with it. Its working fine and adding text into existing conversations on phone.

Coming from using Eirtext on a 3GS I am quite happy.:D

Also been wondering about this. No such problem with contacts though, mine are all there without me really having done anything to set it up.

The messages will go to your messaging app, cabbage doesn't receive them. As for the contacts, have you moved all of your contacts to your google contacts from the phone or sim?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 735 ✭✭✭Craigels

no i havent moved them how do i do that ?

Did this ever work for you? I asked my OH had she installed cabbage on her wildfire and she said it wouldnt work. Im assuming its the same resolution issue as with the Mobile Account Checker program (emailed that developer and never got a reply unfortunately). Never asked the OH since and only used the phone during the initial setup for her

I think it is the same resolution issue. The original developer ryderster is too busy now to keep up development and I'm supposed to be taking but life keeps getting in the way. Once I do take over I'm hoping to fix that issue

Over the last couple of days, I've been working on a new Android app for cabbagetexter. Since the old one seems to be abandoned, and isn't open source, I've made this new one completely open source.

You can find it on Google Code at https://code.google.com/p/webtextr/. It's licensed under the GNU GPL.

At the time of writing, the app isn't finished. Although it does work, I haven't managed to get the contact picker working quite right.

You know how in the old app, and in the stock SMS app, you can start typing the name of a contact, and it'll give you a drop down list of contacts containing those letters? Yeah, I haven't figured that bit out yet.

It's currently just in source code form. Once it's more polished, and I've signed it, and made an icon for it, or whatever else you have to do, I'll release it as an apk. (This is my first Android app; I'm still learning!)

I'll keep this thread up to date with any progress on this app...

Hi, it hasn't exactly been abandoned, it's just taking time for me to take it over.

Is this app using the send.php script on my server the same way ryderster's app does?

Yep, though it's configurable from within the app. So if someone's hosted the scripts on another server, it can be set to use those scripts instead.

It also adds successfully sent messages to your existing messages database. And it does so with the correct number, not the number preceded by a bracket like the other Cabbage app. (This caused problems on HTC Sense-based phones, as it would consider that number to be a separate contact, and messages sent from Cabbage would show up in the SMS app as a separate thread)

EDIT: Also, the entire main screen is contained within a ScrollView. This will fix the problems with HTC Sense's keyboard: in the other Cabbage app, the keyboard would get in the way of the text field after you'd entered two lines of text. It would not scroll.

I can add I have that same issue on the SE X8 xperia

cabbage texter does not seem to add the sent messages to your "offical" messages on my legend 2.2 ..... it worked on 2.1 fine. Sam , can you have a look please.

Keep up the good works guys. I'm using the Galaxy Tab and have had Cabbage for a while now and love it. I have noticed that when I add new contacts to the phone they will not appear in the Contact picker?? All the others do that I did not add recently?? Anyone seen this before?

    Cheers,
    M

Sounds brilliant CambridgeGuy. Naturally you have to put your time into getting the app fully functional first, but if possible would you be able to look at the some of the things missing from CabbageTexter. Most importantly, the ability to use the app to send messages when using Handcent, SMSDroid etc. (i.e from the menu that pops up and allows you to set defaults)
Also, if you need testers, you can put my name down. HTC Desire with the stock 2.2 rom
    Best of luck!

I must admit I've not used Handcent or SMSDroid. Would it work like this? : You write your message in those apps, then hit send. And then, it'd let you pick to send either a normal text, or send via cabbage.

That could probably be done with an intent filter. I'll have to look into it. First, though, I need to get this damn contact list to show up. Then it'll at least be a viable replacement for ryderstar's app.

That would be savage alright. I've the cabbage icon beside the handcent icon on my homescreen, would be handy to delete the cabbage icon to make room for something else and have all sms go through the one app.

Despite what a few StackOverflow questions have said to the contrary, invoking my Cabbage app using an intent filter should be possible.

I was looking through the source code for the stock SMS app here: http://android.git.kernel.org/?p=platform/packages/apps/Mms.git;a=blob;f=src/com/android/mms/ui/ComposeMessageActivity.java;h=e1112a2e0707baeeb67e91d66b961fa17ed14151;hb=HEAD

When the send button is pressed, the following code is run:
    startActivityForResult(new Intent(TelephonyIntents.ACTION_SHOW_NOTICE_ECM_BLOCK_OTHERS, null), REQUEST_CODE_ECM_EXIT_DIALOG);

Crucially, this means it's starting an Activity for sending the message, not by specifying the Activity, but by specifying an Intent. It *should* be possible to get my app to intercept this.

I guess it would actually make the GUI and my sought-after contact picker redundant if I could implement the app this way.

The actual method I was talking about was far simpler. It simply involved adding your app to the "Complete Action using" screen that pops up when you click reply on any of those apps. Like the following:
    Complete Action using Example

I must say your idea sounds pretty unique and possibly an excellent way to implement it.

EDIT: In hindsight, this may be what you are actually talking about. I know a good deal of Java but have yet to make the transition to Android so Intents etc aren't yet part of my vocab :D

EDIT: One more thing, if you want another way to avoid creating the GUI have a look at WebSMS (google WebSMSDroid for the google code page). I posted a bit about it earlier a few pages back. It uses connectors that the main app implements. I'm not sure how they function re the scripts but there seems to be extensive documentation available for it.
