corn sowing fever

    a heck of a lot of winter corn being sown on the east coast, (1) i hope price hold up next year and (2) i hear some merchants promising 150 per ton, merchants being merchants they could seek to insure against losses by raising fert prices substancially next spring, maybe i'm wrong and should clean off the old plough and join the rest. any opinions ?

    Gambling is gambling. 2 years ago a neighbour sold his suckler herd, an excellent one, and ploughed up for spring barley. Now he has 2 years losses to cover and cant afford to re start his suckler herd. If you have a lot of the equiptment and can keep costs down then go ahead as it looks like prices look good for 12 months. But 2 months ago we would have said prices look disasterous for next 12 months. As the saying goes, expect the unexpected

    Talkin to the uncle today, he's forward sold the winter wheat.
    Didnt go into exact prices but garunteed €180+ for August/Sept delivery at 18% moisture or below. Payment in November.
    Saying that he'll have to by his inputs there, fert is meant to be painfull next year :(
