Can someone clarify the pre-payment option with Canyon:
"After we have assembled the order, you will receive an invoice with our bank details. As soon as we have received your payment we will send out your order."

So I order, they assemble and send out an invoice, I take the details and run over to the bank and transfer the money to them and then they ship? Ive no credit card and I've never bought anything like this so I'd just like to make sure this is how it works before shelling out. Thanks

That's it. They will give you all their Bank details including the main info which is their IBAN number. Run over to your bank and tell them at the counter where you want to send it, how much etc.. You need to make sure you are sending it to Canyon with the Reference number they need to match your money to their/your order otherwise it will need to be matched manually by you or them once the money has reached its destination (another day basically). I know all this cos I used to order a lot of PC equipment from Scan in UK. Takes about 3 days from Ulster/BOI for the money to travel. (which is bull****, but that's another thread : )

Thanks Fran, I'll probably order the GC AL8.0 tomorrow so.

Make sure you don't order pedals yourself as they are coming free for xmas. Unless you dont want to use SPD's just on their own. I ordered some SPD's that take a flat platfrom but the free ones are 'just spd's'. Cant wait for mine now. Really looking forward to using the Fox terralogic forks.

Watch this. They are old but the principle is the same. I think the 2011's don't even move a mm from user influence. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3fTPqWFDkAQ

Yeah I saw the free pedals, I was gonna try flats and move on to spds after a while but I'll just go straight to the spds. Any recommendation on some good shoes, been looking at CSS/chain reaction but I don't really know which to choose.

You're gettin the 8.0 aswell aren't ya? Yeah I've always liked the look of fox forks, I just hope they are as good as they look;)

AL 8 yeah!!! I have the flats for normal shoes and spd's only. I have read a few reviews on the Shimano MT42 SPD shoes. They sell them at Cyclesuperstore.ie in tallaght. Comfy on and off the bike and reportedly dont have any flex/point of connection issues that a lot of shoes suffer. For cross country bikes those forks are as good as they say from the news i've read in the industry.

Got my tracking number for my AL 6.0 today :) Chanced my arm and asked them if they could throw in the pedals. I was told 'no' :( I plan on putting flats on it anyway though.

Weird. My Shipping notice literally just changed to arrived in Dublin (Woohoo!) But why does it say 12/04/2010 but not today's date, 12/06/2010?

    DUBLIN, IE 12/04/2010 6:30 P.M. ARRIVAL SCAN
    TAMWORTH, GB 12/04/2010 5:52 A.M. DEPARTURE SCAN

Have you got it yet? Mine has had it's departure scan at COLOGNE this morning. Going by your bike's tracking history minre could have its arrival scan in Dublin as early as tomorrow. Can't wait!! I've ordered Canyon bar ends and a couple of spare derailleur hangers (one for my Ultimate CF) along with it.

I'm still waiting. If yours had its departure scan from Cologne this morning there is no way you will have a Dublin Arrival scan tomorrow. You need to go through Barking and Tamworth yet (uk snow!) and then you need to join the Truck queue at Liverpool. I just got an UNLOAD scan from the truck that landed in Dublin on the 4th!!, so that gives you an idea of the backlog they are dealing with at the moment.

lol. yeah... it arrived on the 4th, just received the unload scan not 10 mins ago and now its the 7th! and I'm still waiting. Don't want you to get your hopes up for getting this week. I just rang UPS and they are having to deal with a massive delay in shipments due to knock on effects with the weather in UK and Ireland made worse by the fact that shipping for Christmas is ten fold!

There was a weekend between the arrival and unloading of your bike though. Hopefully I'll get it on Friday but realistically it'll probably be sometime next week. As soon as you've got yours unpacked and set up I'd very interested to see some photos of it on the 'images of beauty' thread.

If you don't already know about it, CRC are giving a 10% discount on all transactions over £100 at the moment (5% over £50, I think). Handy it you'd be looking to get some accessories/gear to go with your new machine. AFAIK today is the last day for this offer. I put an order in yesterday.

True true! If I ever get it I will Definitely do some photos! Good tip on CRC Thanks!. I need a skullcap, and shoes. And now the heaviest snowfall in history in Portlaoise has commenced!

Well I just ordered mine there in anodised black with a few other bits, Would love if it came for my birthday but that (probably) won't happen.

21.... Jees, now you make me like a grandad at 32. You should deffo have it by the 17th!. I ordered on the 17th November but my order got messed up at Canyon. It failed on their system so they had to print it off or something then it got left on a table somewhere so I was exceptionally unlucky. They compensated me with SPD pedals. It started shipping on the 2nd December and it will arrive tomorrow.

I'm not too sure whenmy order was actually put in as it was done so on my behalf by a customer service guy. However, the payments were submitted last Monday (29th), they confirmed the receipt of those payments on the Wednesday (1st) but I only received confirmation of my bike being shipped yesterday. It's now making it's way from Cologne to Barking. It'll probably arrive at my door on Friday or next week.

Hmm, I dunno if I will get it by then, with the snow and the probable higher demand at Christmas time, don't really mind anyway.

Anyway just got the invoice now.

My bike has departed Tamworth and is on its way to Dublin already. I could have it for tomorrow. Yours should arrive in time for your birthday ST3PH3N. Is it a present for your 21st? If so, nice!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 402 ✭✭DHFrame

Bike arrived today with no change to the tracking notices so I don't know how reliable a tool it is really. It does'nt even say delivered at this point.

Well the bike is a dream!! The frame is just incredible, really nice and light. Build quality is top notch. I have a few photos for you to look at the link below. You can see the last photo is of the rear derailleur cable that was installed incorrectly. I am onto canyon about it now.

Gonna take it for serious setup spins tomorrow.

Wow, it looks really, really nice. Gettin really excited now about gettin mine now:) I can imagine the seat and grips getting really dirty, will have to get some nice Fox gloves to match the forks. Best of luck with her.

@Lemag, just a coincidence with the timing. I've been looking at gettin a hardtail for the past 4-5 months or so. Started off with about a 500 budget but after reading reviews of the components of bikes at that price I decided to splash out and do it right.

And the bike likely won't be here by 17th. Delivery estimation is week 51.

    V. nice looking. Strange choice of pedals I would have thought. I have those for my commuter and I like them but if I were to go for clipless they wouldn't be my first choice. If I were looking for flats I wouldn't go for them either as I tend to have to kick them the right way around every time I have to put my foot on them. I just got some flat Wellgos today to fit to my MTB.

That's a strange one. Pesume there was a slight tear in the cable housing which split further along it when it was jammed into the adjuster barrel. Pretty sloppy work for such a simple job really. Presume you'll you'll just ask Canyon to send you a new cable and housing ? Bit of a pain in the ass.

500 -> 1500. That's quite a jump. I was tempted by the AL 8.0 but since I used the BTW scheme for this purchase which only covers the first €1000 (or slightly less given that German VAT is 19% - I'll not get into it here) I reckoned that the AL 6.0 represented better value for money. I reckon that the AL 6.0 is ALready too good for me as it is anyway :D

At the time I just went for the cheapest to upgrade later. Worry not. My free SH XT PD-M 770's are on their way as we speak.

I will hopefully be able to fix the cable myself in the meantime, Its fully operational at the moment. Hopefully they can send me a new Cable and Cable housing in the meantime. It was definately human error though, who ever did the fitting just rammed a fraid cable in with a tool without checking first and it forced the cable housing to split as a result.

Mine arrived at about lunch time today (thurs). I'll try to get some photos up on Friday after work. Can't get over the width of the bars. The CANYON RACE SL BAR ENDS turned out to but much smaller than I expected though. No free pedals :( Some fun should be had when I take it out. Seems to be thawing down here so might even have a good opportunity this w/e.

@ DHFrame - Have you had much of a go off of yours yet? If so, what's the verdict?

Cool. Love to see some pics! Went out in the woods and I have to say it exceptional. I set up the shocks sag at home and brought my shock pump in a rucksack so I could adjust. The terralogic lockout is phenominal. Bike is pretty much silent, there would be no noise whatsoever if the derailleur/chain was silent. Its amazing how much the frame flexes compared to a heavy frame, it feels supple under pressure. It's the lightest bike I have ever had, you need to cover a much greater distance to get the same exercise as my old 14kg GT bike. Went out on the road on it a couple of nights ago just to test, in the snow, which you have quite a lot of grip on actually. Left it to thaw, as it turns to ice, but now it's completely gone so I'll be back in the woods this afternoon. In the meantime I have bought a Power Washer from Argos for €69 which I think is imperative, and a pump for the Presta Valves, Just need to buy the spd shoes so I can swap out the pedals.

Canyon are sending me a new Cable set for free, the damaged gear cable should be a doddle to fix. I Need a set of cable cutters now.... Its amazing how much sh*t you need after you buy the bike in order to keep it going.. Add another 400 to the price at least.

Your bike was delivered x10 faster than mine. The free pedals were posted on Monday and were here yesterday.... I got really unlucky with the Canyon order going wrong, and then UPS not delivering my bike for what felt like an age! Anyway, no worries, I am all set now and it will be a distant memory quite soon.

Mine won't be as plentiful or as nice as yours. I won't have daylight so that's the excuse which I'm going to stick with.

    Nice one.

If your bike sees the action it deserves you ought to get yourself one of these. I also have
this which I find to be very good and you should probably pay the additional £39.99 for the tool kit which they offer with it. As for cable cutters I have these and they cut cable fine but regarding the cable housing I've only tried them out on housing for road bike cabling. All my might was needed but they worked.

It might seem like you'd be forking out yet more on what is already a very expensive outlay but if you buy the above it could save you a fair bit of hassle and money in the future.

Might be a good idea to ask Canyon to send you a spare derailleur hanger along with the cable which they will be sending to you. (if you didn't already order a spare one with your bike, that is).

Great Tips thanks Lemag. Looking for a decent bike rack. These look really good http://www.amazon.co.uk/Raleigh-Car-Rack-Avenir-Montana/dp/B0014BMGRE/ref=pd_cp_sg_1

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Thule-Freeway-3-Bike-Rear-Mount-Carrier/dp/B001P82428/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1292010377&sr=1-1

but I am having trouble sourcing them for Ireland. Any ideas? I am driving a hatchback Almera 2002. Would love something decent under €100 preferably for 2 bikes but they all seem to be 3 bike.

I don't care to be an elitist but if anyone wants to set up a 'Canyon Owners Only' club I'll join.. twice!!
    xauiZ.jpg

I aint got no car so I can't really advise you regarding a rack. I'd imagine that they wouldn't all be suitable for your Almera so, unless you can find a rack review by someone with a car similar to yours, this might be something that you ought to check out in a shop rather than online.

I'll be relying on the charity of others to get my bike out on the trails.

Ohhh, they look go good! Are they wellgo flats? The chainstay protector comes with the bike doesn't it?

The bar ends look great, I was gonna get them but I'm unsure if I'll use them with the handlebar being a riser, I might give some stubby bar ends a go if I feel the need.

How is the remote lock out on the reba's?

I paid for mine yesterday. Can't wait for it to come after seeing all the pics. Best of luck wit the 6, and the road bike look great too!

Thanks. It came with mine. The only extra items I bought from Canyon were the bar ends and a spare RD hanger for each of these bikes. You're correct, they are Wellgo pedals. Not up on MTBing yet so I thought I'd go for flats until I had a better idea. Also, I plan on using this as my short commuter so the Wellgos might very well stay on it for the sake of convenience.

They're nice but a fair bit smaller than I expected or would have liked.

I haven't taken it out yet but works pretty well from a standing position.

Thanks again. The road bike is awesome. Comes in at under 6.4 kg. Not much over half that of the MTB.
