The deal is good if you have a small car that doesnt need special oils or plugs, very good in fact. However if you have something around 2L which needs expensive oil & expensive plugs, the price could get quite high and one would be wise to get a full price from atlas for your particular car before going ahead. The deal amounts to €69 I think off normal pricing. You just need to be sure you dont end up paying over the odds for additional or higher spec items required.
I guess there is always a percentage of deal buyers too who never actually turn up for the service so in those cases, it is money for nothing.

be careful with this deal. 'Too good to be true' really is the case. They did the service but tried to sell me €200 worth of other repairs. I knew the car was in good nick as I had just recently purchased it second hand and had a mechanic look over it. They tried to sell me an exhaust and also parts in the braking system. I decided to get my own mechanic to take another look at it and he confirmed that the car is in perfect running order. These type of garages have a brief from their bosses to sell, sell, sell. The idea is to get you in the door and then jack up the cost by selling you repairs you dont need. The part in the brakes wouldnt have been discovered by a basic service, it involved stripping the brake hub which in very time consuming and these guys dont do extra work for free. I also recognized one of their employees who I know to be a dishonest person, I had dealings with him previously at another similar type garage and he sold me tyres at an extortionate price.... Birds of a feather flock together wha!!!

All said the service seems to have been done but I dont trust them one bit and for piece of mind I will use my own mechanic in future

Be careful here with these pirates!!!!

What part of the braking system did they tell you you need to replace?

why did'nt you use your own mecanic to service your car in the first place, sounds like your trying to bad mouth these guys

I'm still curious as to what part they recommended replacing. Sounds a bit odd.

Never had any mechanical work done with them, but after my experience with tyres I'd never go back.

Ordered two tyres from them to be fitted in the Drumcondra branch. Went to get them fitted and it turned out they ordered the wrong size. Tried to blame me but I had the email to prove it. One of the tyres had a slow puncture and I needed it replaced ASAP, so he sent me to the Dorset Street branch where they had one tyre the right size.

While removing the wheel the guy in the Dorset Street garage dragged the air-hose of the gun across the roof of my car. Went over and had a look after he'd removed the wheel and sure enough, he'd scratched the roof. I called him over. First he tried to deny it was him even though I'd just seen him do it. Then he rubbed it with his wet hand and said, "sure there it's gone". I pointed out that it was only being masked by the wet and would obviously still be there when it dries. His response was "sure there's scratches all over the car", pointing out a single stone chip on the door. He then charged me a "special rate" of €210 (normally €250, allegedly) for the tyre even though I heard the Drumcondra manager telling him to give it to me for €200.

Needless to say I didn't go back, and when replacing the rest of the tyres I found the same ones in another place down the road for €170 each.

I am sorry that you feel you have been hard done by, I am not sure which branch you had the service done but I can assure you that our brief is most certainly not to 'sell sell sell', quite the opposite in fact, we are told never to oversell or say something is needed when it isn't(personally that sort of practice is why people are so wary of garages) as if it is checked properly by anyone else and seen not to be needed, we then look bad and loose custom.

I have underlined the word properly as this is where the issues start.

I/we do not think that servicing a car is simply throwing in a set of plugs a new air filter and changing the oil and filter.

The car gets a full inspection which includes checking all lights(condition, function and alignment)checking brakes(pad, disk, drum and shoe dimensioned measured against manufacturer specs, flexible hoses, steel lines, rear cylinders and caliper seals checked, brake fluid condition checked), suspension checked, all shocks, bushes, links etc.

Those are the main checks as well as the obvious things like tyres, wipers etc.

The vast majority of garages will simply check things and once they 'look' ok they say they are fine.

I speak only for the Drumcondra branch when I say that if you are told it is needed, then its needed and you are very welcome to see the test which shows the part is needed being carried out and the reason for the part being needed will be clearly explained. Of course you are never under any obligation to have work done if you don't want to.

The biggest problem we now face is changing peoples confusion between a full thorough manufacturer spec vehicle inspection(as opposed to someone 'looking over' the car) and overselling.

@muckwarrior, While errors car never be completely avoided, I can see how your experience was poor and dragging an air line over any car is unacceptable! I can only say that the Drumcondra branch has recently had a complete management and staff change so the branch can move forward with none of the customer service issues which unfortunately seem to have existed in its first year odd of operating.

You won't go far in Motors with that kind of posting. Please clean it up and try and post constructively or don't post at all.

Are you not going to tell us which mysterious part of the braking system they recommended changing? If they spent hours stripping the braking system I really would like to know the part that they suggested.

It sounds like complete bs to be honest that a poster that never posted on here before says they took his braking system apart and recommended replacing a part that he refuses to name.

I got my wifes car serviced in the kimmage atlas, wasn't on the boards deal either, think it cost €119.

Either way the service was good, I was happy with it and a quick check revealed that the work was done (new pads, filters, ect) They called me up and told me that the tires looked a little worn and could do with a change, my immiediate reaction was I'm going to get nailed here. So I asked how much, I was impressed when he said 2 things, first was that he would rotate the tyres so only 2 needed to be replaced, second was he asked how much driving the car did, more or less than 10k, when I said much less, he recommended a decent low cost tyre that would do the trick.

Mores the point, I had pointed out the airbag light was on (happens when you pull the front seat back to far in VW's) and the hazard light button was sticking. They fixed both for no charge, minor I know but appreciated.

Overall I was happy, it was a simple service, handled well and I didn't feel raped, wish I could say the same for previous service dealings!

My experience for what it's worth...

I got the branch in Stillorgan to put on two new tyres I had purchased online and track and balance the whole lot. The car was undriveable on the motorway afterwards. Had to get the whole job done again elsewhere and was told that whoever had tracked my tyres previously were cowboys. Never again.

Wife's car was serviced up in Sandyford a few weeks ago. When they couldn't sort a warning message on the dash (see separate thread), they took it up to the main dealer to hook it up to their computer at no extra charge, turned out to be a warranty issue. Knew the brake pads needed replacement and they did a deal on those for us too.

No hesitation in recommending them and will definitely be repeat customers.

Nice bunch of lads up there too.
