So, we're less than 3 weeks away from the biggest darts event of the year. Phil Taylor will obviously be the odds on favourite again this year but some erratic form will lead some to question him. Others in contention will be Raymond van Barnevald, Simon Whitlock, James Wade and Mervyn King.

The draw will be posted up when it happens, so until then, what do people think will happen this year?

The eternal bottler, Gary Anderson will go very well this yr, infact, he will be carrying my few quid to win it out.....

Since the PDC World Championship started in 1994 there has been only 4 champions Taylor,Priestley,Part and Barneveld so It would be nice to see another player make the breakthrough.

While Taylor has been down for a while I fully expect him to be at the buisness end of this tournament once again but after losing 2 long format games in the Grand Prix and the Grand Slam will the longer set games be his undoing?

Wade and Whitlock should go well but I'm not convinced about Barney this year,a 1st round draw against 1 of the players championship qualifiers will be a tough game and I could see him exiting the tournament early. I'd like to see Gary Anderson win it but he has to get some consistency into his game to win it out IMO.

Gary is a really sound bloke, one of the few who haven't forgot were they have come from. Think Gary will do it. Its his year

Has got a good draw alright, Barney looks the only danger in his quarter:

I love Christmas, three weeks of nothing but food, beer, presents and DARTS!

It will be hard to discount Taylor, even taking into account his recent two losses.
The sets format will benifit him as oppossed to a race to best of 31 legs.

Taylor to be in the business end of things.

If anderson gets his double trouble under control he will be hard to beat with his heavy scoring.

I would love to see Baxter getting a title but he will have to produce his A game every time as he does not have a B game:mad:. He is either brillant or terrible no in between

Here's the betting for it. Some decent prices for Stompe, Newton, Osbourne, Lloyd, Caven and especially Walsh i think.

There will certainly be upsets, especially with some of the international players. Most are very competant and if some more familiar names make a few mistakes they could be in trouble.

Not sure his head is in the right place, after losing his dad. As long as its going his way, he'll do well, but i can see him losing the head if trailing. Also the crowd may add to his woes.

I had no idea his dad died. Was he the guy with the white beard that the camera always panned to? What happened to him?

Ye thats him alright. Not sure exactly, i just picked it up at the GSOD after one of his matches (possibly v Henderson?).

He said that he would most likely be an easy opponent to beat in the next round, as his head was "not right".

Mind you he did give Wade a good go .....

I'm hoping Alcinas gives Wade a good game after his fine performance in the World Cup.

Jenkins and Cullen will be a tight one as well.

Can't see Taylor winning it this time, no matter how hyped up he may be. Difficult to say who will win it though, expect plenty of upsets!

Alcinas looks to be a very decent player alright.

Think Taylor will win it though but would love someone like Anderson, King or Whitlock to!

I think Webster could go a long way in it, but alas he's in Taylors side of the draw.

Only 10 days away to the start of the World Championship and after the weekend's World Cup a few more players have emerged as contenders. Mark Webster and Barney look to be hitting form at the right time and must be considered as possible finalists.

Wade seems to be a broken man after his defeat to Waites and will have to up his game big time to do well in Ally Pally. Gary Anderson looked out of sorts at the weekend and I can't see him winning a World title. Taylor has had a poor few months but I still expect him to go far but I'm not convinced he'll win his 16th title. Whitlock should go far too but again is he good enough to win it out?

Personally I still can't decide who to bet on but does anyone think an outsider like Newton,Walsh,Baxter or Beaton could cause a sensation and win it out? An interesting World Championship awaits.

i'd say if taylor got a tough first round draw he could be gone early as it stands he will have aa easy first round then he will be settled in for the second round

Could we do a prediction league for this for the craic? ie we predict the scores and it's put on a league table or is it to close to the tournament?

Was just checking out the prices on paddy power there, and it seems there are no afternoon games this year - at least in the first round. Also Taylor not playing till after Christmas?

Taylor will be playing on the opening night Thursday against the winner of the prelim round game between Gary Mawson and a player from The Phillipines. All evening games I'm sure in the first round.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,102 ✭✭✭✭Degag

Ah, i see the the problem. Taylor didn't appear on the pp website because they obviously can't offer odds until they know who he's playing!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 465 ✭✭greened

I would expect Mawson to come through the prelim game.
Taylor will not have it easy against him as Gary has been playing the circuit for a good number of years and will not be phased about playing Taylor. He is a solid player and the shorter format should also help Mawson. However saying that I cant see any bit upset here.

Anyone near a Tom Floods bookies they are very competitive with their prices on the pdc.

They have taylor at 1/2 so are bigger on the other players.

    wade 8/1
    barnie 16/1
    withlock 16/1
    anderson 20/1
    lewis 25/1
    king 50/1
    webster 66/1
    jenkins 66/1

    1/2 odds 1-2

they are some of them unless they cut them today .

webster 66/1  and barnie look stand out at those odds to me.

Barney to win the bottom half looks a good bet.

King at 50s looks tasty. If he got his game together he could beat anyone.
