Hello any suggestions to improve call quality when using skype. My upc broadband speed is up to 15mb. Is the call quality related to broadband speed in particular or am I missing a trick somewhere.
Call quality can vary from good to broken voice/delayed etc. I would really appreciate constant call quality but is this achievable and what would I need to do.
I just signed up for unlimited world package, many thanks in advance for any advice given.

I assume that a lot will also depend on the quality/speed service of the person you are Skypeing.

I would also assume that the quality of the camera and microphone plays a part, particularly for older/very cheap computers.

So what you can do is ensure that both parties are running the latest version of Skype and that both parties have their router firmware upgraded to the latest version.

My in-laws had huge trouble with Skype until I upgraded both their router firmware and the version of Skype they were using, now calls don't drop and the quality of calls is much better.

Call quality is related to broadband quality & latency as opposed to speed. All you can do is minimise other traffic on your Internet connection while you're on a call and see if that makes a difference.

Blueface have a network test application which while it won't help with Skype it will give you an idea of the quality of your broadband for VoIP. The link to it doesn't seem to be working at the moment though.

Thank you for the prompt replies really appreciate. My computers are recently purchased, you mentioned a router firmware upgrade. Is this my wireless upc router and if so any advice on how to achieve this upgrade would be great. I have the latest skype download but sometimes I also ring mobiles and landlines with the same issues from my skype. Thanks for the link to the network test app will try again later.
I have the upc phone package also, but was considering cancelling in favour of skype, but really need constant call quality

If you're using a wireless connection between your PC and your router then try using a cable instead for a while if possible. It would help rule out the wireless connection as a possible source of quality problems.
