The majority of dangerous and irresponsible manoeuvres I see in Dublin are usually caused by non-Dublin regged cars being driven by guys under 25.

Thats a fair point , its also to do with drivers that have semi decent cars that think the car cant take damage on impact and have super breaks .

You do realise that if you continue to call everyone a sap you will get banned?

Oh & I highlighted the 't' in the because you failed to make it a capital letter. Which you should have done really since you have started using STOP as a form of punctuation instead of the traditional symbol.

Well we were top of the mortality rates charts for a long time, I believe thats been improved alot though.
Theres a difference between the worst technical drivers and the most dangerous though. Some of the driving that you see in some European cities is unbelievable, there doesnt seem to be any order to it, its like survival of the fittest. Yet those countries might not have the same number of roads deaths per capita each year as Ireland.
Generally speaking we just have a "ah sure fcúk it, til be grand" attitude to everything, which is takin to the nth degree by young people who are starting out to drive.

For a pure discussion on best and worst driving as regards rules of the road, common sense etc, Ireland isnt the worst. Standing in the middle of a zebra crossing while scooters and smart cars zoom by infront and behind you leads you to that conclusion!

    They are.
But you are hardly in a position to question it because you have attacked two posters. Attack the post, not the poster.

I would be down for a wager for your monthly wages. I have €100 right here. :P

I'm talking about coordination being important in driving. How is that not on topic?

Typical Continental driver-pretend not to see you and pull out in front of you.
Typical Irish driver-look you square in the eye and still pull out in front of you, then pretend they can't see you.

With the new speed cameras starting on monday we will all be more conscious of our driving. we will also get to know the roads with the most accidents reported, only time will tell if it will make a difference to road accidents or not. If it has the impact the hope it will we should become better drivers or maby safer drivers.

Yeah i think the new cameras are a great idea, poor 17 kid last night killed . I have no idea of the circumstances he could have been speeding and a boy racer but probably not a couple in their 50's were injured too, all could have been avoided i reckon .

Im not having a go at you but you are assuming the 17yr old is in the wrong. What exactly makes a boy racer, is it the car or the boy? I dont know the circumstances of this accident either but I do know with some accidents that after investigations are carried out the person you thought was in the wrong was actually innocent.

I'm not sure they'll help. I mean if they're put at accident black spots and it's marked that there is a camera there then people will slow down.

The problem here is that they are seen more as a money making operation and they're put on relatively straight roads where people can pick up some speed, so that they can catch you and send a fine.

A report done last year in the UK basically said that speed cameras do nothing to curb reckless driving.
They found that cameras caught people driving a few miles per hour over the speed limit, but otherwise safely on empty roads. Whereas the real danger is not necessarily speed, but reckeless driving.

This is hardly a serious thread about safe driving STOP You made the claim that Irish drivers are the worst in Europe which many people have successfully refuted STOP If you want a serious discussion of this, then post in Motors not in AH STOP

yes I totally agree with you it will be a way to make money but It will make us more aware I think especially during the late hours and early morning when we tend to drive faster due to no traffic on the roads. I have looked at the roads the will be targeting and some of them have had no fatal accidents on them which would have me think it is just to catch us on the straight stretch when we just cant resist putting the foot down. I travel late night and early morning and I will be paranoid for awhile anyway.

The problem is that our motorway speed limits are too low. Not miles too low, but they should be 130km/h instead of 120 IMO.

Don't get me started on the 30km/h limit in Dublin City Centre.

I think the new rules mandating training and R plates will do much more than the cameras will.

I know ! it's just we all jump to the conclusion that the youngest person is at fault or the person who died is at fault.

Still in operation as far as I can see.

I drive all around the Midlands and East for work. I just believe people can safely drive 130-140km/h on the motorways.

Speed limits are there for a reason 120km is really fast. If you were tO higher the speed limits your just decreasing your chance of survival! Yeah the city center limit isnt ideal but if someone were to be hit at that speed on a bike or walking they have a hell of a lot better chance of surviving . The new rules for R and stuff im all for but there are provisional drivers out there better than full licensed drivers
