whathis face from the IT said he reckoned an election was more likely than the spring by-elections.

    Reckon he's right?

    Most definitely.

Independents and FF backbenchers will be looking for a good time to revolt to save their own skins.

The FFers will probably rejoin FF or join FG after they win elections as independents..

    Definitely.

If this budget falls then they'll call it I reckon. Can't see FF wanting to put themselves through the humiliation of bye elections.

Not to mention that if they lose the bye elections, they'll lose a majority anyway.

I expect the budget to pass as FG and Labour abstain using the cloak of placating the markets. Then when the 3 other by-elections happen in the new year and FF lose them all I expect the Government to fall and a General Election to be called. I would expect that to happen before the end of March.

well that's a certainty - one that FF is all too aware of. question is, will FF backbenchers say **** this, better to go to the electorate before the budget, than after it - you know, selfish 'save my seat' sentiments. don't think they follow the party elite's 'country first' mentality - in as much as it exists (debatable)

I highly doubt Labour will abstain, it would ruin their popularity whereas it wouldn't ruin Fine Gael's. Their base support is in different ideological areas at this point..
