Just heard an ad on the radio for this course running at the Digital Hub, which is free if you're unemployed and being funded by Irish and EU taxpayers. Details on the webpage are sketchy, which is surprising considering they're advertising a course on internet media and communications. The course looks to cover the following areas:
    • Web Video & Internet TV
    • VJ & Event Visuals
    • Internet Audio
    • Digital Film and Radio
    • Internet Publishing
    • The Games Industry
    • Electronic Music Production
    • Internet Marketing
    • Digital Animation
    • Internet Customer Service
Two problems I see are that none of these areas are particularly easy to get work in and for a few of them there's no shortage of books, online tutorials, youtube videos, and free software available to anyone who wants to teach themselves. I suspect a course covering the basics of computer programming, networks or similar would offer a better deal to both the people taking the course and to taxpayers.

Should we be funding courses like this?

Of course we should be funding courses. They all look like worthwhile areas to study.
