Argue all you want but irish drivers are the worst. ...
Did you type your OP on the M50? If you drive like you type no wonder people were dodging out of your way.

OP you still have not furnished us with a list of countries you have driven in?

Sicilians are bad drivers, even main land Italians think they're nuts. When I got back to Ireland after a week in Sicily the M50 seemed felt like order and calm.

People are seriously missing the point here, the last bank holiday gone 4 people died on our roads and its just disgraceful . People commenting on my typing need a life how pety can you get, you cant type ooh shock horror . All im trying to do is create a bit of awareness and for people to wake up and start taking some responsibility when they get behind the wheel.

Some of the things I notice about Irish drivers are:

    • Drivers that speed up to traffic lights and then have to brake harder at light which was red all along. Why not just maintain speed rather than waste fuel and brake pads?!
    • Turn from Clonbrassil St. to Lord Edward street is two lane onto two lane. Lane on right, Clonbrassil St. is right turn only. Lane left of right is straight on and right turn. But those turning from right lane think they are the only lane to turn right and once on Lord Edward street turn into the left of right lane to go on down to Dame St. thinking they have right of way... if you get me.
    • At roundabouts not using correct lanes and not indicating properly.
    • Indication in general is bad especially on motorways.
    • Under taking on motorways say where you have overtaken somebody and see ahead you'll need to do so again and decide to stay in right hand lane.
    • At exits on motorways not using the right hand lane to allow traffic enter motorway in left lane.
    • This one is to my advantage but Irish drivers are afraid to use bus lanes outside of hours. Is great on Sundays!
    • Motorcycles coming up really fast behind you and under taking. That's just stupid!
    • Worst of all is tailgating. Anybody does that to me I'll keep you there longer and god help ya if you flash me!
    • Not turing off headlamps
    • Braking to turn and then turn on indicators, not other way around which it should be!

The US for example has approx 10 times more deaths per capita on the roads.... Portugal and Spain are in excess of 3 times. The insurance companies like to have us think that we are **** drivers so they can get their grubby mitts on more of our cash!

Correction, Portugal is in Line with Ireland since 2008

As the saying goes your team is only as good, as the weakest member.

ie, youre only as good as your worst woman driver:D

Italy, Spain and Portugal are three utterly terrifying countries to drive on. There's literally a serious crash every few miles when you're driving in Italy, far worse than anything I've seen in Ireland.

Ill give you that, lane discipline is non existent here, approx 1 in ten knows when to change lane. The third lane (the inside one) is just not used here! Also whatever happened to matching the speed of the lane you are joining?

But then again no one is taught how to drive on a motorway......

Try driving on the highway in the United States, then you'll see what drivers not understanding lanes is really like. It's really odd, all the other roads in the US seem to have a relatively high standard of driving but once you get out on the highway it's like you're on a different planet, seriously scary lane changing.

Argue all you want but irish drivers are the worst. When im driving on the m50 i see people speeding in and out in lanes not only putting himself at risk but other drivers also.We especially cant drive on bank holiday weekends what the hell is wrong with everyone that they cant stick to a feckin speed limit . I was driving on the m50 and some absolute gob****e sped past me and in the wet i might add apparently we dont beleive in braking distance either , but on the exit i was taking we met at the lights again and me syicking to the limit we got there at the same time therefore there is no point. Are we that stupid as a nation that we disregard our own personal safety and put other peoples loved ones at risk?

Would you consider emigrating to Australia, there they have smaller but longer roads providing more time to enjoy scenery.

Right so here it goes " no offence" but depends what way you look at it. For instance Irish drivers do not know basic rules of the road like indicating properly or overtaking on motorways or even going too slow on a motorway. But theyre not as aggressive and bitchy drivers as the rest of europe. As an example in europe you would not stop in the middle of the road beside an oncoming car to have a little chat :)

This is mostly to do with there being no compulsory driving school as in the rest of eu.

    There we go finished :)

Its funny how they see every road as having 4 lanes. Most of the cars i was in there didnt have seatbelts in the back. Speed limits are just suggested speeds. And id say even the police have a few glasses of wine before driving.its madness there

OP really want to have a look at other countries before he makes an opinion .

Im just back from Spain after a 3 day trip with a rental car.

They are mental. And my rental car was bashed .

I have found the Italianos to be the scariest by far though. If you are going to drive there. Make sure you have fully comp .

Irish drivers are one of the safest in my experience and I have toured europe and the states under my own steam.

The only thing I find a bit hard to take with Irish drivers is Morons who indicate to turn right on roundabouts and go strait on, and lane discipline on motorways. But that really is not a major safety issue.

    +1 to the above!

+1,000,000 for the part in bold :D

my cousin is living in Italy for the year and she said drivers over there are manic compared to here! so i wouldn't say the Irish drivers are the worst in Europe :) but some Irish drivers are TERRIBLE! :(

I was recently in Italy and i honestly didnt find the drivers that bad. But when i drive at home i just cant beleive the stupidity of Irish drivers. The point im making is and ive said it before its too easy to get a license here , there are not enough speed cameras in place and the laws are not strict enough . Fair enough other countries drivers are alot more 'crazy' but here, we are just plain stupid nobody cares how fast there going or how it will kill them or someone else as long as they to where theyre going fast .

I think maybe the problem here in Ireland is that the traffic laws are not enforced,we dont even have a dedicated garda traffic corps, where as in other countries they do.

you are correct in saying that the traffic laws are not enforced in any general sense, bad driving habits and poor lane discipline are rife in Ireland.

We do have a dedicated traffic corps but I never actually see them do much.
I must admit that on the odd occasion when I do see a garda pull over a car for rules of the road infringement I allow myself a sly smug smirk as I drive by.

The limited experience I have of driving in other countries I would put Ireland as average. In the US California is the worst, Oregon the best and Texas as average. France is good, Germany very good, Scotland good except Glasgow, North England OK, anywhere south of Nottingham bad. Spain the worst.
This is the limit of my experience.

Anytime i see traffic corps garda cars there investigating other crime, i am talking about a garda traffic corps as in that is all they do, like the uk,spanish & portuguese police have.
