You can get it over the counter but it says on the back that it is not to be given to children under 6 months or 1 year (can't remember which, will check later) without consulting a doctor. I hope people just aren't giving it to young babies themselves without consulting doctors based on advice on an internet forum:( And if you are how are you deciding how much to give?

the pharmacist, PHN or GP can recommend it, my pharmacist told me to ask the phn, she hadn't a clue so told me to ring the gp, the gp said the pharmacist would know and to trust her so i wouldn't have to wait to speak to her for every little thing.
also because i had to give ben more than the recommended dose clearly labelled on the packet i was assured by the gp and the pharmacist there is nothing in it that will cause any long term harm and that leaving a baby with silent reflux is potentially more harmful to their osphegus caused by the stomach acid.

i'm not in the habit of giving advice that could cause harm, and have always stated that you check with gp or pharmacist. but by passing on information i received here that changed my baby's life i thought it could be benificial to pass on my experience, or is that not what this forum is all about??

No change, still will not lie down...anywhere. |Won't go in the crib / bouncer / chair / travel cot.

Stay away writhing from 12 am to 7 am every night. Galviscon hasn't made much of a difference in the 48hrs I've been using it. Nor have the drops.

Have the 6 wk check up tommorrow so maybe we might uncover something. Might try the
    ClevaSlee Positioner....may as well!

    |If not I might try a different formula.

Errr, I wasn't having a go. My post was directed more at the people taking the advice than giving it. Just stating that people need to check with their doctors/phn before using it, just like you did ;)

Some of my friends found that cranial osteopathy made a big difference to their colicky babies. Could be worth a try if you hit a dead end.

The doctor recommended Aptamil comfort milk which was so thick, she couldn't get it out of the bottle and the next teet was to fast for her!

So I moved her back to Aptamil 1.

Infacol do get the wind up but didn't stop her fretting and gripping.

In the end gripe water worked perfectly:

I only have to give her 5 ml with feeds from 5pm to 6am and she is a new baby!

Why is this not available in Ireland?, madness.

its not available in Ireland cause of the alcohol in it think its 90% but you can get in the north
thankfully my little fella has stopped the snorting he is now 11wks but he now has oral thrush and cries no stop and stopped feeding so had to bring him to the doctor hopefully the gel he got works soon

It's not available in Ireland for a stupid reason.

It used to have alcohol (between 3 and 8%) and sugar in it. It was banned in the UK and Ireland. It was withdrawn completely then and reformulated. They reintroduced it in the UK but as of yet haven't bothered with Ireland.

It can be got in Ireland though, sometimes Asian supermarkets have it as they import from the UK.
