The media boycott was only ever for the BBC.
    the papers wrote:
Meanwhile, Alex Ferguson cancelled his traditional Friday press conference and embarked on a media black-out.
Ferguson is annoyed with the way the media portrayed his comments about Fernando Torres and what he saw as an attempt to have John O'Shea sent off during the recent clash between Liverpool and Manchester United.
Supposed to go on for a month, I believe.

Last Week? a bit late with that wasn't he given what he said on 14th of august.

To me it more reads like he had already asked and they didn't give him an answer as to whether there would be or wouldn't be signings. He asked again, which would have been the assurances he was seeking, didn't get them and said he was off.

That was probably our chance to make it or break it with him. It broke in this case...

So Was Ferguson lying when he said he wanted out in August?

Either way we have the club's talisman coming out and telling us the club can't buy players who are good enough.

The head in the sand act is surely getting harder and harder to carry on with...

    Of course not.

From all the years I've seen Fergie mess with the media and spin BS to protect his players and his team, that interview yesterday was the most sincere interview I've ever seen him give.

I'm sure you'd much rather believe Rooney's PR department though.

    How so?

City are clearly a club with greater ambition than us, along with the means to match that ambition.

This esentially. If he signs for Barca/Madrid/Chelsea then you could at least say he was going to clubs with immediate prospects of winning trophies.

But if he signs for City he's full of sh*t.

He has cited the reason he wants to go as being cause he wants to see a squad being built of and competing to buy world class players, City tick that box fairly comfortably.

No, because it's much easier back a player who's leaving the club you hate, and make out Fergie to be the anti-christ yet again!

I see right through you Al. Nothing but wires and gears underneath. You're a United hating robot and nothing more. ;)

Their immediate ambition is to finish top four. They have huge money to spend but they're by no means dead certs to be regularly winning trophies in the next 5 years.

You believe what you want, I for one don't want to see the club enter a bidding war with the likes of city. Interesting that you would think we should given your stance on club finances.

City have and probably will be buying world class players.

    Perfectly consistent.

I didn't say a word about bidding wars.

What I said is that thinking Rooney going to City would mean his "lack of ambition" line is a lie is completely and obviously retarded.

A transparent united hating robot to be precise.

There's no way he'll end up at City. Fergie went to court to stop a declining second choice LB Heinze from going to a Liverpool. You honestly think he'll sell a superstar to a club he hates more than Liverpool?

Guarantee you he'll sort a deal out with his mate Jose, and Rooney will be off to Madrid.

Surely the Glazers have to come out and give reassurances about player investments or other players will become unsettled by Rooney's precedent.

Guess spending getting Bebe instead of Van Der Vaart looks pretty silly now!

City are starting from quitre a way behind where United currently stand in fairness.

6 months ago United came within a point of the Premiership, were playing in the QF of the CL and won the Carling Cup.

While obviously City are making huge strides in the transfer market and putting club rivalries aside are undeniably a rising force with huge potential, the jury is still out as to how fast they're going to be a club that'll be at the stage United currently are.

If he does sign for City he's taking a huge risk if he wants to be playing at that level for the 5-6 years he still has at the top level.

It strikes me the likes of Barca/Madrid/Chelsea would be far better bets.

Did I say that, If Rooney goes to City it will be primerily for the Money and I don't blame him for that , I'd agree with Keano's comments in fact. However I'd like him to be honest with the fans and say he's been made an offer thats too good to refuse. Of couse he can't do that so he should just say nothing instead of spouting obvious bull****.

So, David Gill says we have £150million to spend on players, we just dont want to.

Rooney asks him to assure him that the squad will be improved and he cant give him that assurance?

Whats going on at our club is dark and getting darker.

Definitely. He was very average in the handful of minutes he's played for us.

Man City started quite a way behind Liverpool too.

City's squad is monstrous and they're playing extremely well.

Chelsea took what, two years to come from a long way behind to league winners? After spending far less money and bringing in - if anything - a slightly lower calibre of player.

The idea that it will be 5 or 6 years before they're winning things is just wishful thinking tbh. I think it's completely deluded.

Two situations totally different, Rooney has all the aces he'll go where he wants and tbh that should be the highest bidder, I can't see the Glazers selling him to anyone but the highest bidder can you?
